when i was in LA for my holidays in september last year i escorted my sister to the tiesto on concert, this was the second time id seen him play, this was a production based on a combination of his second concert & search of sunrise 4, fair enough, the sound quality was second to none, the lighting and FX were top notch, but the real killa tunes of that time last year just wernt there and that ruined it for me. didnt even notice much mixing at all, he was just cueing cds. another thing i noticed is that the size of it all seemed bigger in the dvds than in the US (prob cause they couldent move all the gear needed to keep it the original size, + it was only a 4hr show)
i realise its a concert about him, & dont get me wrong i loved some of those in there time (waterfall, moments etc..) but he pretty much played the cd as it is, + a few old classics. the encore was perfectly production line rehearsed, the moment it finished he disapeared & didnt meet & greet as far as i know.
left me with the confirmation that he is no longer a scene leading dj, and that his contribution to trance has gone in the wrong direction.
seems like he realises the tall poppy syndrome cutting him away, did what he could before it was too late & now he just drains cash out of uneducated dance music enthusiast noobs.
when i compare what i heard jan 2004 to sept 2005, it became plain as day to me that he had been bitten by the comercialism bug.
sad. once upon a time he was my fav dj. now i feel embarrased to admit to that.
i pray that armin isnt falling into the same trap.
im kinda glad that this has happened, cause 1. people need to realise that his is not a higher immortal power, hes just a regular guy like you and me [/star struck], and 2. now other well known djs can learn from his mistakes, and this makes trance better for the future.
