Admittedly I haven't used a wide range of online vinyl stores. I'm a sceptical person and it took me a while before I gave into my vinyl habit and attempted purchasing from the stores that I do use.
I think you can tell a lot about the service that you'll be getting from the the design of the store's website. For example, Juno has a very well designed site. It doesn't make you cream your pants over how incredible the webdesigner is at flash or anything, but most importantly, it displays what you want to see. Simple to navigate, the search works well, the results of a search will tell you everything you need to know about the release (catalog #, tracklist, label etc) in a very easy to read/comprehend format. My point is, this is what convinced me that they know what they are doing and they know what the customers' needs are. So now I use them and their service is great. I have only ever had one problem with them, which was that with one of my orders (out of the 5 I've placed) took 6 weeks to get here. When I spoke to them on the phone about it, I was told that this problem was the case with lots of other people who placed orders in the same period that I did... they had used another shipping company because the christmas rush meant things were very busy. I finally received my order on the 11th of Jan '03, after ordering it on the 28th of Nov '02. I think they've learnt their lesson, and I know it was something they couldn't really help.
The only other store that I've decided is worthy of my business is Chemical. At first I looked at their site and wasn't too sure about them... but I read lots of threads about what people thought of them and people tend to speak highly of chemical records. On top of that, they have quite a good selection which caters fairly well to my tastes. I've just placed my 4th order with them and am very happy buying from them.
Regarding HTFR, I've been to their site many times to see if they'd have those really hard to find records that I'd give an arm and a leg for... in short their site is shit, they look fucking dodgy, and after reading several threads with similar jists to this one, I wouldn't take the risk or waste my time.
Juno & Chemical are where it's at
...by the way, can anyone as sceptical as I am, recommend some other top notch services?
