i miss NY sooo much, just for the bagels. people just don't understand the concept of a good bagel out here in Wisconsin.

Ok, so this Jew in NYC is chillin with his two German buddies who just came over from Berlin, and they say to him-

"Goddamn these are good bagels, we don't get bagels like these in Germany"

The Jew replies-

"Well whose fault is that!?"

good one!

i used to go to this bagel place in NY, where you enter through the back door of this building and you have to walk through this long hallway with windows all along the side... and you can look right into the kitchen and see all the bagel making machines and all the bagels coming out on the conveyor belt all fresh and delicious looking. that place had some bomb ass bagels... man i miss it!!

I love Capital Grill! I didn't know it was a corporate chain. It's pretty upscale here too. Valet parking, doormen. They do the best ever Pittsburg styled steaks, charred on the outside, rare on the inside.

I want to learn how to cook fish. Mine is always bland. I even went out and bought cedar planks for salmon thinking it would do justice, but it was still I don't know what spices to use, because olive oil, salt, pepper and lemon juice weren't enough. It was like cardboard. Now that I think of it those planks were only for 1 time use and I'm still re-using them thinking it doesn't matter.

if you've got any specialty grocery stores or health food stores around you, try finding a spice rub. it's usually just a mixture of chili and spices and they might sell different varieties. coat your fish filets with some olive oil or butter and then the spice rub (i usually used it on salmon) and then just broil it in the oven for a while. it's a great way to add a lot of flavor to your fish.

flounder with butter, dill, and toasted almond slivers is also quite delicious.

when my uncle was living in the bahamas and my mom and i would go visit them, we'd catch fresh fish that day snorkling and spear fishing...like grouper and hog fish (sooo good!) and my aunt would bake it and make a crust over it with just butter and ritz crackers believe it or not. she'd do something with honey too...and the butter would melt and mix w/ the honey and the crackers gave it some kind of breading. omg...SOOO GOOD!
