ok, i just do not get san diego. i'm sorry. but seriously....i met some real cool TA's on friday, but wtf is up w/ the majority of peeps there? attitudes left and right, pushing, elbowing, FUCK THAT! this stuff NEVER HAPPENS IN LA. people in san diego need a lesson in dance floor etiquette. NOW! i've never had a worse experience at a club than last friday at belo!
i realize LA is not perfect by any means, but i almost got into 2 fights, and my friend observed two girls fighting (pulling hair, etc) on the dance floor!!!
i love san diego, but c'mon! |
Was not there Friday and I don't doubt your observations were not true but come on . . . last time I went clubbing in LA was a disaster too. We stayed in a hotel in Hollywood that was a fleebag dump. After the short cab ride to the club got accosted on the one block walk to Avalon by gangbangers. Waited in a huge line that did not move. My girlfriend got hit on THREE times by e'd out washing machine couples wanting her to go threesome with them. Another girl went behind her and started trying to brade her hair. Oh yea got drinks (not mine) spilled on my white shirt twice. Went outside to the smoking area (alley way) and some guy was smoking a joint. My impressions of those in attendance was not wonderful sophisticates but more like a mixture of cool clubbers, drugged out trippers, sweaty dudes and bangers. I also remember reading the review of the show on TA and someone spotted a person with a gun in the club that night too.
LA is one of the best if not the best clubbing cities in the world due to the abundance and variety of talent and venues. . . but this kind of garbage happens all the time. Don't give me that never in LA line. Thats all.

ok, if you stayed in a fleabag of a motel, that's your fault. there are plenty of nice places in LA if you want to spend the $$$. if you've only been to Avalon (which it sounds like it), i'm sorry. you went to one of the worse EDM clubs in LA. they are well known for having crackheads left and right, and bad security. i can almost guarantee the majority of peeps will agree that Avalon is not their number 1 choice for clubs. hollywood is not the safest place, esp. around the avalon, and that sucks you guys were harassed by gangbangers.
i specifically said LA is not perfect by any means, and if you're complaining that you got a drink spilled on your white shirt, that's funny. YOU'RE IN A CLUB! when i said this stuff never happens in LA, i'm referring to it's never happened to me.
i love 4th & B, and miss that place. i do not however enjoy On Broadway, and Belo. the TA's i met were AWESOME, but overall the crowd was pretentious, rude, and a group of guys behind me were screaming "YEAH ARMIN"....and Boris was the one spinning!

for instance we had nick warren at 4th & B and we barely pulled 450 people... we rely on street name to get us a good crowd at belo because there is a lot of talent out there that doesnt pull like armin. |
There are a lot of reasons I can explain for Nick Warren's low turnout. For one, almost no one around here would know him by that name. You should have done the whole name/alias or group name thing (like Sharam of Deep Dish). Secondly, the opener was boring as hell, hence why no one really hung out in the whole bottom area of 4th and B. He also looked like a clown in the pimp hat and all, no offense to whomever it was. Thirdly, outside of the regulars and people in the know I never saw a flyer for Love Fridays after Hernan C (or however you spell his name) so how can you expet to draw a crowd if monthly flyers aren't even out. I wouldn't necessarily be blaming SD for the bad nights Love Fridays wound up enduring near the end. If I remember correctly the first 4-6 shows went off huge. Mostly due to the fact the names were recognizable and got talked about would be my guess. 4th & B is an interesting place too. It's nice for larger shows and stage events (like a Hip Hop or local band show) but it really lacks the club feel and all. I will say I enjoyed Armin there though, and imho its a much more proper venue for Armin since the crowd would be so large.

I'm planning on Rank 1. Pete should be awesome!

When was this...? I musta totally missed it. The only time I heard Armin chants were right before he got in the booth.
I'm also not going to comment on the fact you had one bad time in SD and say it never happens in LA. Not to be mean, but that's some weird logic to go to generalizations by. All I can say is the crowd for Armin was more or less a joke "to be seen there" crowd. I kinda liked it when we could stay at the stage last year and not feel like sardines. lol. I mean, what happened at Belo reminded me of friggin high school dropouts and all. It was a joke of a crowd and not one to judge all of us by. You should have been there for Markus or come to the Rank 1 show. My guess is you'll get a more realistic picture. That's what fame does for people... makes them stupid and greedy. I came to dance, and danced I did in the back... and probably saved my ears a bit too.

the armin mix-up happened well before he came out. prolly like 11pm.
re: everything else, keep in mind this was my experience (although several others had the same), but def. was not the first bad one i've had in san diego....this was the worst. minus the bad things that happened, i really enjoyed both Boris and Armin.
i've been clubbing all over SoCal since i turned 21 (now 27), so i wouldn't just diss the entire scene down there after one bad experience. like i said, i realize at ANY club, stuff like that is going to happen (i.e. Avalon and why i avoid it), but i can honestly say I'VE never experienced rude people at Spundae (when at Circus), or Vanguard...and i'm there every weekend. even at small venues in LA (like Nacional, or Tentation in Newport Beach) the dance area is tiny, but people are respectful when dancing and do not push/elbow, etc. when 4th&B was still going (which is as big if not bigger than Vanguard), i've always seen 10x more rude people. it's always been cool talking to/meeting new peeps outside the dance floor, but out there it is a completely different story.
of course, i've heard several people complain about clubs in LA, so everyone's gonna have a different experience. i think what motivated me to vent was seeing so many other people's coments on the night. i realized, it wasn't just me who felt the way i did.
on a positive note, one of my greatest memories in s.diego was when armin and markus were at 4th&B a couple of years ago. i'm pretty sure it was the first time both had been there. since then, nothing has really stood out. believe me, this will not prevent me from going back. i'm there every couple of months ALWAYS hoping for a GREAT TIME, and that's what we all should be there for.
