The compact fluorescent bulbs (CFB) contain mercury, which is very toxic, and terrible for the environment. You cannot just throw them away like regular bulbs. They have to be properly disposed of at a handling facility. When was the last time you took your burnt out CFB to your municipal dump, and asked how to dispose of it?
The mercury going into our land fills, due to improperly disposed CFB's, is of more concern to me, than the pollution that incandescent bulbs produce. |
You just return them to the store.

No, actually, I haven't agreed with a word you said so far. I stated in no uncertain terms that CFs and energy-saving appliances are a useless political stunt that waste everybody's time and money except for the companies that produce them.
It seems that some people refuse to be educated. If you're not even going to read what I wrote, and choose to respond with incoherent one-line non-sequiturs instead, then I guess I'm done with you. Hopefully a few less stubborn people will read it and understand. |
I wouldn't want you to waste any more time googling facts between posts for arguments sake.

Guys, my point wasn't about comparing Y2K to global warming.
It's about PROPAGANDA or BRAIN WASHING.
I lived in USSR before 1985, almost end up being communist.
Right now N.America is being manupilated by big corps same way as russians were 25 years ago.
P.S. Since government is letting people to write off gas as expense,
sales of SUV/trucks will continue to climb. Stop doing that.
P.P.S. I'm car-less for last 2 years, using TTC or bike whenever possible. Changed my light bulbs too 4 years ago.

ah...do you actually know the state of the economy or even the specific sectors you are refering to? SUV/truck sales have been on a steady decline for the last few years. They may rise for the odd month, but overall the sales are down. It had nothing to do with people writting off their gas expense, but everything to do with our oil prices being artificially low. People wasted gas because it really was cheap, but now that the prices have risen, people are thinking twice.
IMO people need to write off gas as an expense. Lots of people drive around for work, and they have no choice but to do so. You may enjoy the TTC, but having lived in Vaughan, and Mississauga, transit sucks. Try living in Mississauga, being an at home care nurse, and taking the bus to your patient's houses. Won't work.
I have never had a car, and bike/bus/walk everywhere, and always have. But, I do recognize that is not practicle for some people, hell for a lot of people to do that to get to work. Our transit needs to improve before we can force people out of their cars.
