sorry no clue, i'm a fruity-addicted
haven't worked with reason yet. and probably i never will.

but you can 'prepare' your samples in soundforge or wavelab and then load it into reason. there are some realy good and free vst-fx-plugins out there. most of them include great distortion, eq and compression effects.

try some of these:

tk fx pack
js fx pack
bj fx pack

i cant' remember the links so you gotta visit google.com

cheers

Nice cyrus
Do you have any more percussion tips? I synthesize my stuff as well, but I'm not sure what effects to put on for a final polish.

Reasons awesome for fukin around with kickdrums. I normally start with a kick off a sample cd loaded onto a nn19, a 909 or something. Then use the envelopes on it to make it sound sharper, like compression and maybe the filter to cut off some high. Then add another kickdrum sample on another nn19 and layer them over the top of each other, if you cut the low out on this one and wack up the gain you get a much sharper kick sound. I then tweek the kick when everythings playing because it can often get drowned out if its a thick mix.

Basicly its not hard to get a good kick sound when its playing on its own but your main concern should be how it sounds when the mix is at its thickest.

That kick post for reason works really well. Nice thick kick. I set one kick channel left and one right and gave the right channel a little bit of an attack. it gave it a wider sound. Also i added a really deep bass line to the left channel with a little bit of attack and a low pass and a cloned bass line on the right channel with no attack and and a delay on both channels and it sounded deep and thick.

Ill send some in that ive used b4 but the best thing you can do is get a load of kickdrum samples(ne drum sample cd) n play around with them till you get a kick which suits the tune.

Another good thing to do to make a kick more dirty is to load it into an nn19, low pass filter it and drop the pitch by about 2 octaves. Then load the same sample into another nn19 stick a high pass on it and play it at normal pitch. Its more suited to techno really but could work well in a dark trance tune.

that sounds neat. lets keep posting ideas on this thread. Try this simple one out.. when making a dark trance drum loop. and foldback distortion. it gives it a sweet gritty but dark sound. make sure you add a compressor and a lil reverb
