yo yooo! This was definitely a fun night, the reed room made the party intimate and the fact that 50% of the heads were TAs just made things that much better. NYTAs are fucking crazy, you guys are a quite a community i must say - back when I was clubbing in California, i've never seen west coast TAs kick it like we do out here.
I loved the music, Simon you tore it up with some real nice driving trance, melodic too, i loved that! Sean - always nice seeing you spin in NY bro, no need to say you destroyed the floor. Tom C., it was great meeting you too, still have to listen to your CD, and that was mad cool of you to introduce me to Activa! If you guys didn't get a chance to meet Rob (Activa), you missed out. That kid's made one of my favorite tracks out at the moment (Genetic), and we spent a good 20 minutes just talking about the track & how he made it. Real cool kid, very very down to earth.
I'm real glad i made it out to this and actually made it inside the club, because there were multiple obstacles along the way that almost made me turn around and go back home. Here's more about that:
STUDIO door staff are shady. Period. I got to the door at 1:03am, and the massive nyc list guy told me the list closes at 2am. I tell him to look at his watch, he sees its 1am, and says "oh i mean it closes after 1am". While i'm standing there looking at him like what's wrong with your head dude, 3 girls come up to him and get comp tickets. Ok. I talk to him and tell him I know Sean etc etc, and he finally gives me and my boys 3 "reduced" gustlist tickets. So we head to the cashier. There was a big bouncer right next to the cashier, so I asked him how much the guestlist price was. He says $35. WHAT! I turn around and me and my friends just start walking out, because the whole time I was thinking we'd have to pay no more than 20. As I do this, the same bouncer calls me back. Here's the conversation that entails:
Him: Where you goin man?
Me: Not in here, i'm not paying $35 for a ticket.
Him: Why not? What, you can't afford it? *looks at my wallet* what you got in there, how much you got?
Me (with a face) : Not enough to pay for 3 tickets at $35 each.
Him: How much can you pay?
Me: $20 each.
Him: Ok.
So the 3 of us ended up paying $20 each for the tickets, but only after all these shady negotiations. Seems to me like the door staff were trying to pocket side money one way or another. I know some of my friends paid 35 or 40 to get in later that night, that's just sad.
Aside from this, though, the night was stellar. I'll see everyone at Above&Beyond June 1st
Stan
