And there in lies the problem everyone gets the wrong impresion of hip hop because thats all they here, however rap really isnt about that shit. What the genre needs is for someone skilled enough as an mc yet real enough to not talk about all the mainstream shit to break out and show the world what hip hop as a music and culture is really about. I think the reason most of the board slams hip hop is the same as most people do to trance they are simply uninformed.

Hip Hop is a culture, it has different colors, its diverse and meaningful to people of all around the world. It also lets you bump and grind with ladies, get up on their asses and show them whose the man

Im a huge Tupac fan...sharing a lot of hip hop on DC. Where I come from, Trance is minimal compared to Hip Hop scene, but Electronica Dance music is gaining as clubbers are being more educated of the great abilities of Trance n all other Electronica music. DJ QUIK who recently produced the song "so addicted", the one with the Indian vocals in the backround is my neighbor across the street , my dad listens to that type of indian music, so im thinking he got the idea from him...havent gotten a chance to catch the man to ask him yet.

i hate those 15 - 16 year old kids like..whatever there names are...little pow wow or something, who start rapping. rap was great years ago, i actually listened to some of it, but now to many new artists are coming out, it all sounds the same, and they do it for the money. i was gonna type a couple paragraphs about it, but i'm off to lunch

Absolutely; it's mostly an image thing or you haven't been turned on to trance music yet (or you think your friends will laugh at you for listening to trance music). I grew up in rough urban areas listening to nothing but hip hop, but rarely listen to it now (most of it is just crap, but there are a few good tunes out there). IMHO only people who really know music can truly appreciate trance music.
For me thats what I'll always remember Napster for; It got me hooked on trance music. Otherwise I'd probably still be listening to the same crap over and over again on radio and MTV.

rap, I dont mind rap if it's set to good music. DJ Bobo, Imperio, Phario, etc. Dont like Hip-Hop at all, way too slow, too much samples, not enough music. If Hip-Hop played sophisticated melodies like Delerium's Semantic Spaces album, I might give it a chance, but as it stands the melodies sound really cheesy to me, like Italodisco of the 80's.

why Hip Hop ??? lol thats what most of america is saying about trance music IMO . Hip Hop music is very soothing to the mind. Every now and then i spin hip hop on my decks. I just get sick of listening to trance all the time. Theres nothing wrong with variety. Now the commercial hip hop is shit. But some of the underground stuff is mint. The song that got me into hip hop is Bone Thug's N Harmony & Notorious Big - Notorious Thugs. What a great production. Give hip hop a chance

LOL. It doenst got more closed minded than that folks. There are things outside of trance you guys all know that right? There is even good music outside of it. If you like trance thats fine but dont go around invalidating all other forms of music.

How can you say I'm closed minded when I listened to Rap/Hip-Hop for over 20 years before being converted to trance? I'll bet you are barely 20 years old; how long have you been listening to hip-hop/rap? And I'll bet there are more people on Trance forums who can produce music than there are who can produce hip-hop music. If you are so smart why are you on a Trance Forum and not a Hip-Hop forum? Besides, I NEVER said I don't like hip-hop, I said I rarely listen to it...

I actually got tired of reading through this thread so maybe I'll finish it later. But anyhow, what I would like to add is that it's the attitude of some people that drive someone away from a music genre. I myself love quality trance more than anything else and all I wanna do in my life is spin and produce the music that I love and yet I go to clubs and have fun listening to rap/rnb/garge/hiphop and stuff like that. What I'm trying to say is that I am openminded and enjoy other types of music aswell. One reason why I go to such clubs is because most of my friends are into that kind of music so they take me along with them. The other day I was going to a new club that was gonna be playing trance and I invited my friends. What pissed me off is that we were chilling downtown and everything was fine, until it was time to go. With us was a new guy, a friend invited him, and I he said to my 'best' friend "hey lets go to this club that I just found out about that plays rnb/hip-hop etc". I told my friend "I thought we where going to CLUB D (the new place I was talking about)". He goes (rough translation from greek) "everyone goes to his music" and he just left and stood me up to go with a guy he didn't even know. The next day I explained to him how pissed I was and he wouldn't listen, he would keep dissing trance saying it's to him what daylight is to vampires, and I know many ppl who are like this. This is so lame, it made me hate other kinds of music more, especially rnb, rap etc. Also, another thing that is 100% true is that a great amount of ppl listen to this kind of music because they want to be black, I see them in the club doing westside shiet with their fingers and most of them haven't even been near the place. Some of my friends call them 'Nigg*r wannabes' and I am definately not racist, I just dont like ppl who imitate/try to be someone else.
