they used to have them at my work I think but it got taken away. the union is working on getting them again. I went ahead and just bought them myself. custom earplugs rock!

When I used to build dies I would wear earplugs every day at work. Go through three disposable sets per day (at least).

I wonder if the $200+ is worthwhile given that one set is perhaps $0.10/pr in bulk quantities. That's $0.35/day (lets say I drop one pair on the ground every second day). Approx 200 working days per year. That's $70/year in disposables.

So, the worker has to go nearly three years on the same custom plugs to make them worthwhile.

I'd say most employees won't wash their plugs properly or hold on to their plugs long enough to get through the 3 years.

Foam plugs are likely less comfortable than custom but I bet the majority of people find them comfortable enough to work in....

Just a thought...

Went for a hearing test there last week, awesome staff. Bought ER-20s and they're great at attenuating sound, but I think I'm going to go for custom hearing protection. Personally, I don't quite like the fit of the ER-20s.

it's definitely more expensive to get customs in the long run but I find them to much better in terms of how they filter the sound. I find that foam ones bring the volume down too much and take out too much high end

I've been at Guv for most Saturday's for 11 years now. Not to mention all of the other clubs, concerts, and working at the airport on the ramp for about 5 years.

I've worn ear protection probably 5 % of all of those times and the last time I had my hearing checked, I passed with flying colours. That test was 2 years ago...

The only problem that I have is the occasional tinitis but it's more annoying than anything and certainly not constant...

No, just comfort level. I wonder If I should have actually gotten the smaller size.

I got my custom molded earplugs (15's) from ListenUp Canada. They were $200 (worth every penny) but the hearing test with them was for free.
