Thanks Blurr. With the transitions, it really just depends. As I've said before in the past, I really try to focus on phrase-matching and the transitions are only as long as they need to be w/o killing the energy. I would say in most cases my transitions are at least 32 bars (about a minute). Sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. In some cases, it can be real long if I feel the need to setup a loop at the end of the track or the beginning of the next to give me more time to make a smoother transition.

I think it's just a personal taste thing on how that's approached...I am slowly trying to crunch the transition to not be at the very end of a track because you often have a dead energy period during the transition...and if transitions take too long, IMO, you often lose some energy in the set, especially if you are in the meat of it. This is actually my biggest criticism of a DJ like Markus schulz...he used to be REAL bad about loonnng transitions, and it still bugs me sometimes. When I was making the adjustment I wanted to keep the energy going w/o killing the energy to try to get the crowd back quicker. SvD is killer went it comes to setting up transitions so no energy is lost.

I'm by no means an expert on transitions and am always finding myself adjusting my taste on how I like them...

Dave's set on Saturday was spot on. Loved every minute of it when I was there. It's how an opener should play, but I don't think 1015 is ready for that style just yet especially for a local night.

Minimal and Techno just don't seem to work there, but given the proper time like opening up for headliners that style would totally work.

Hot tip. Figure out who manufacture's the Alienware laptops and lookup other laptop sellers and find the same model and probably for a helluva lot less with at least some of the other laptop dealers. The only difference might be the colors on the keyboard and the top is usually customized for each brand.

I ran through about four or five Alienware laptops in a few year span when they used Clevo laptops (who also made/makes laptops for Sager, VoodooPC, 1Beyond, and countless others). We had HORRIBLE support with Alienware so we started buying them from Sager (who didn't provide a lot of support....but they were about 25% less for the exact same laptop...we now just buy all MacBook Pros since we can just run Bootcamp and Windows on it, though.

I believe Alienwave stopped using Clevo (prob a good thing since we'd always burn ours out in a short period of time...hence why I went
through so many). And now that they are owned by Dell, I have no clue who makes them...prob just redone Dell laptops sold for a helluva lot more. But I dunno. Research!

Dave,

Great job playing last saturday! I enjoyed the 2nd half of your set most but I like the fact that you experimented the first hour. We all have to experiement and push the boundaries constantly. Remember, you're not a juke box and you always need to find what works with the crowd and still enjoy what you're playing as your own style.

Hope to see you play again Dave.
