I think he meant that they aren't very skilled as DJs, which is often the case with people who get big as DJs mainly because of their productions.
First, Sasha and Diggers got big AS DJ's.
Second, to say they aren't that good after almost 20 years is pretty dense.

The point was that what they're doing isn't as difficult as some people make it out to be, and that there aren't plenty of DJ's even here on TA who are every bit as "good" as (and in some cases, better than) those two are after twenty years.

Maybe now, but I've never heard anyone on TA who can mix vinyl as well as those two could back when they made their names.

The question then just becomes one of "What have you done for me lately?"
I think it is entirely possible to acknowledge someone's talent and contribution to the scene without engaging in the whole "My goodness, these lads are better than anyone else - and how dare anyone say otherwise!" discussion (and I'm certainly not accusing you of doing so).

well obviously; but completely ignoring the two after all these years and saying they aren't that good just does not compute.

He didn't ignore them though, just mentioned that maybe even to them the fact that so many other people can do what they do, yet people seem to worship them for doing it (the list of "worship-worthy" DJ's obviously pales in comparison to the actual # of DJ's in the world), seems a bit ridiculous.

Of course. I'm not advocating DJ worship based on what they were doing 10-20 years ago, but I think it's unfair to say that either of them got to where they are by riding the back of production success or without being technically adept. It's true of a lot of DJs but not them.

Yeah, I just don't read what Jay had to say that way I guess:

seriously man love the music, the man behind it does little or nothing, its embarassing to them that people would worship them for what they do considering anyone with any iota of drive could do the same (minus the marketing team). They aren't that skilled man, get over it and listen to good charlotte or something.
I guess the comment at the end about them "not being that skilled" is probably what a lot of folks were getting at - I just took it as saying that maybe John and Sasha could themselves be embarrassed by the cult of DJ worship because they don't think it would be all that hard to do what they're doing.
