When someone says tech trance, one of the first names that pop into your head in Sander van Doorn. The dude pretty much revolutionized the sound we know as tech trance today.

So when I went to the Guv, I was expecting something special. Unfortunately I did not quite get what I wanted.

After going to the Scotland Yard for the premeet (which contained only one person from Toronto lol) and chilling out with some TAs, I was ready for some TUNES. Tunes. They are the essence of life.

Popped into Acid Lounge to see what's up there and saw Barb. Next time, I expect a squaggle, Barb. (like I'm getting my soul squeezed hug)
Dunno who was spinning, but hear some of that typical bloopy techno. Not my cup of tea.

Glenn Morrisson was sufficiently drunk and random as hell. One track he played hard as hell, another track was more melodic prog and then switched to some trancey tune then back to hard techy house. Dude seemed to be having a good time on decks.
And he did play Cass & Slide - Perception (the non vocal mix so epic fail there) that came out of the blue but was nice to hear at the guv.

This was my third time seeing SvD but I haven't seen him in like two years so I was excited to see a dude I rated in my Top 10 list. Grabbed a spot in the front and waited for SvD to hit me with some slammers.

Alas, although there were some good tunes, I didnt find most of the tracks to be anything really special. I think it's just me, but too many of the tunes sounded samey. Some were too trancey (one was an outright melodic trance which made me go WTF). The tech trance stuff were too generic sounding. Lots of cheesy vocals which were meh.

So I switched back to Acid Lounge to hear some of Aleksandra. Still kinda samey bloopy techno, but it was listenable. Was there for about 20mins and it sounded pretty nice. (And i finally got to say hi. yay meeting new TAs!)
Checked out the Gallery and it was playing that bloopy stuff so I quickly got out. The sound was really terrible too.

I tried to get upstairs to my fav spot in the main rooom up at the balcony, but I only got to stay for about 10mins before the bouncers kicked everyone out from there. Boo urns. The sound was just perfect up there too.

So back downstairs and my opinion of SvD's set didnt change much. Only at about 4am did SvD really picked it up and played some slamming hard as fuck 140bpm real tech trance goodness. I will never get sick of TDR - Squech (SvD remix) although that tune really didnt need a remix...
Was a bit disappointed that SvD got off at 430 but it is of my opinion that most tech trance DJs are only good for about 2 hrs and I think SvD pretty much did whatever he wanted to say in his set.
Was fun analyzing SvD's set though. And pretending to be a pissed off statue

Mark O really brought down the bpm in like one track. I dont like it when he rapidly brings down the bpm. Just a personal preference. Like things to be gradual. Still, Mark O was delivering the goods when I left the Guv I think around 4:45 or so.

Overall this has to be the worst time I had at the guv, but it was fun partying with TAs as usual. And since I rarely had a bad time at an event this year, it was still a decent night.

Doubt I will see SvD again for a while though. Was a bit disappointed with his set. I guess my taste in SvD stayed in 2006 while everyone else moved on.

PS: I was excited for this night that I tried to make a Sander van Doorn tribute set but my recording device froze like 3 times. That's about 4 and half hours wasted lol. Karma. What can you do.
These are the style I kinda wanted to hear.

1. Sander van Doorn - Dozer
2. Armin Van Buuren - Control Freak (Sander van Doorn remix)
3. Mode Hooker - Breathe (Sander van Doorn remix)
4. Arctic Monkeys - Sun Goes Down (Sander van Doorn remix)
5. Yello - Oh Yeah (Sander van Doorn remix)
6. Sander van Doorn - Bling Bling (Sander van Doorn remix)
7. Sander van Doorn - Loaded
8. Manny Romero - Compadre (Sander van Doorn remix)
9. Sander van Doorn - Dark Roast
10. Code 1 - House Music (Sam Sharp remix)
11. Sam Sharp - In Deep
12. TDR - Squelch (Sander van Doorn remix)
13. Sander van Doorn - Pumpkin

I may attempt to record this set again. Karma be damned

yikes! some of you are harsh harsh harsh! just popping online here to say that i had a fantastic night with you guys @ the guv last saturday, the sound system was lovely and the crowd was awesome. sander did a great job too after i finished. thanks for everyone who sent me emails and comments on the night too, it's really appreciated. it's funny actually that a couple people brought up the dub mix of perception i played, that was the one track i really regret playing because it took down the energy too much and i had to rebuild again. in any case, it was a great night and ill see you guys again real soon

ps. yohan i was straight as an arrow bro, had 1 or 2 drinks

No regrets man. Now I can strike Perception off my list of tracks that I need to hear in a club before I die. Thanks for that! ^_^

And DARK FLOWER! I totally did not appreciate this track for its awesomeness until I heard you drop it on Saturday.
