Good one, but I'll bet the joke goes right over their heads, right?

Yup, I just get this blank look from them

Forgive me for correcting you, but that should read: "..., like LA, San Diego, or San Francisco, California." The rest of the state only listens to the likes of Fallout Boy, Spank It! At the Disco, and Mudvayne, oh yeah, and they refer to trance and house as "techno."
|
you're absolutely right, but three major cities that make up a large portion of the population of a state, that all have thriving EDM scenes 'aint bad. In fairness I still got the techno question in bars in LA (they must be in town from the Burbs.... )

I sure as hell dont live in a redneck area, i can tell you that much. The thing is that America isnt very receptive to EDM, unlike european countries and australia. Hence even though i live in like the biggest city in the states it doesnt mean anything if the majority of the people dont even know what edm is or even care. When everything is infested by britney spears and kanye west there is any room for a sean tyas or glen morisson |
Haha, where I live there isn't any good music on the radio ever. The big events here are trash, because they're infested with people who aren't there for the music at all, they're just there to pick up, get trashed and spend a day in the sun. We do have a lot of small nights, which are excellent, and the people at them tend to know their music. But theres probably only a few thousand people in the whole of sydney who really get dance music. I don't think its much better anywhere else though. Europe also has some issues, although it might be slightly better in places like Berlin, London and Amsterdam. But its a mistake to assume that those three cities are representative of the whole of europe.
The reason why you probably aren't seeing dance music in your city is that your looking for trance which doesn't really exist anymore. Anyone who bills their events as trance over here is just making life difficult for themselves. Go take a look at some other EDM, like deep/tech/prog house, techno or prog.

Well the thing is, I do live in a city but, the only problem is it is infested with hip hop. I have not much against hip hop, I like some of it but, the fact is, trance is just not played. I show people and they love it but, nowhere around is playing it or if they are, people are not hearing about it. Its, like it is underground in my area, when in fact I have loved trance music for a long time and know that worldwide it is not underground, its just no one around here knows it. America these days don't hear about things like this from the outside world except what the news shows, and thats for sure not trance music. Its the failed policies of Bush. <----but, thats a whole new topic. I hope that things will change and people around here will be more open to the outside world, cause I for one love it. Thats why I'm addicted to the net, and this forum, because I do see the outside world but, everyone else that I know, is in their hunky dory American life. I wish to go to Amsterdam or Rotterdam and go to some real events but, I can't leave my family behind.... So I sit here trying to make trance music that hopefully other like minded people will like. |
Dance music is underground everywhere! Thats why its actually good, and not so much corrupted by the ridiculous commerciallness of rock or pop! The only exceptions are probably mainland europe and maybe south america. But the dance music you'd hear in mainland europe would be awful cheesy eurodance anyway. From what I've seen over there.
You guys have some really funny ideas about what things in the rest of the world are like

These sentences ruins my day. | Only fags listen to trance.
