And here inlies the problem with Circus these days. The faithful are of the mind that it's "Trance or nothing." First of all, name me 1 club in LA that is all house, all the time. There are other genres beside trance and house and the two other super clubs in LA are thriving on providing their crowds with a mix of trance, house and techno.

Regardless of my rant above, Circus will not be able to book anything other than B-list trance acts until the main room is modernized. The sound system is shit (as proven by the threads on these very boards) and the overall design is about 20 years out of date.

Lack of variety, diversity, and new sights and sounds make me sad.

It would be sick to have Swedish House Mafia, Bingo Players, and Abel Ramos at Circus.

That would definitely be a fun night.

It would also bring in a lot of money at the door and bar.

Avalon is a great venue, but so is Circus. I think these artists would enjoy playing at Circus and it would bring out a lot of people that normally don't go to Circus.

this statement here qualifies the thread perfectly. don't bother naming off sasha, digweed, vath, holden, etc because they won't come. the club is typecast for b-list trance--probably forever since it refuses to invest in a proper face lift, thus refusing to attract outside promoters who own the broad spectrum of edm talent it so desperately needs.

Ironically,I have seen the likes of PVD, Armin, Cosmic Gate and other DJMag Top 10 DJ's at clubs/warehouses around the world that were shameful compared to Circus. I have even witnessed Tiesto, Armin, and other "BIG" names at Circus itself. Seems to me that the top Trance DJ's favor massives over the local clubs anymore (PVD, A&B haven't been to a club in Hollywood since I can remember). One advantage that Circus has is being able to attract up and coming talent (who are sometimes better than their big name counterparts).

So, I guess condensing all of this, I don't see what's so be about Circus these days...maybe it's just an LA thing. "LA Story: The Sequel," anyone?

the la market is the most profitable on the continent with 15 million people in a relatively dense, affluent area. as pop music artists traveling the world headlining at top clubs and festivals seeing beautiful crowds year-round, many of them must hit the north american market and see nothing more than a fat dollar sign above the la market. hence it only makes sense for pvd and armin to prefer large arenas to large clubs. it's not as if the club circuit really offers anything that the arena venues don't.

the problem with circus in its role of attracting up and coming talent is that even on a reasonably successful night where 1000 people come through the doors, it still looks like a massive failure when over half the club is empty.

"Up and Coming" DJs are willing to play anywhere...

But what remains is the the fact that (big) DJs themselves have decided to move on from playing at Circus to play at more modern places in LA. I have heard more than one DJ say this TO MY FACE. And the nthere are agencies who want their top-tier DJs playing att he more modern venues as well.

So in the end, from what I have seen and/or heard DIRECTLY along with from others, Circus' look, feel, sound, etc very much does have an effect on them being able to book top-tier DJs.

Makes me sad, because as a pure venue in LA Circus is my favorite...but it is behidn the times on moderness and it stands out these days. If a lot of TLC was given tot hat place with a big makeover, the layout of the place is great....or could be great.

Thank you in2muzikk i totally agree. Up and coming dj's try harder to impress people. There nothing wrong with circus. People on here complain too much about the sound in LA. But whatever. Maybe circus should close the backroom on saturdays and just have a main room/loft opened
