I think it's better said that people who are serial killers tend to have had experience abusing animals when they were younger..... not that people who abuse animals when they are younger tend to become serial killers.

EDIT: Quick update on the story. The two teens (14 and 16) are being tried as juveniles, each on two counts of animal abuse. It looks like the punishment will be pretty light.
