It has less to do with "new guy" and more to do with your standard of quality. Cheap art, hotel room paintings, are not gonna cut it.

But like I said, I don't think it's that big of a divide in edm. Dance music in general is very simplistic and formulaic. It's just a matter of which way you swing within there.

I was listening to some Alice Coltrane the other day, and that type of music puts almost all the 4/4 club music I listen to to SHAME. Or comparing the complexities of classical music compositions to dance music, it's absurd. (I absolutely hate it when people do that) Club music doesn't have to reinvent the wheel like I said, but it can still be more interesting and stimulating inside of that sphere.

Yea, lets not forget that the main point to DJ's playing dance music is to get you moving and sweaty and thirsty so you buy beer/alcohol or water.

The original purpose of the DJ is an advertiser of music and services, and very little has changed.

you know.. the majority of this thread is massively elitest.. end of the day.. a DJ is an entertainer.. prodominantly by audio.. but this guy has just added a visual element.. im not a expert on this style of music, but to me it sounds pretty fucking good. who gives a rats ass if all he has done is programmed ableton to be triggered by 2 wiimotes?

the end result [i think] is rather pleasing. besides the guy must be doing something right in order to snatch himself a gig like that.

i beleieve there was a topic a few weeks ago about laptop DJs being boring to look at.. well i guess this is one way of jazzing it up.

i wouldnt say this guy is a pioneer and a fucking god or the new tiesto [fucking hate tiesto btw] hes just making his own take on playing to a crowd.

yeah he looks like a bit of a penis to the majority of us, who let dancemusic overwhelm us and we focus on productions and are so readily focussed on criticising anything new or different. but at the end of the day the crowd seem to like it... so no harm no foul

Has nothing to do with it being "new or different"

I like a lot of stuff that is "new or different"

The fact that it's so gimmicky overpowers any credibility this has for being "new". It's a poor attempt at originality regardless.

I think I would substitute "veiled" for "poor".

He's pretending to be original but nothing new is going on.

just watched this movie again... all gayness aside.. this is fucking good music to me.

i tend to not listen to anything below 150BPM as a rule so am not clued up on all this stuff, what style is this? id like to maybe check a set out of stuff liek this, or perhaps a DJ set from a TA, but as i dont know what style this would be called, i dont know what to look for in 'DJ promotion' section

Shit music and shit DJ etiquette... yeah, I'm real jealous.

There are quite a few efficient and practical alternatives to the traditional turntable setup, but a Wii-mote is not one of them.
