Has anyone here even thought about the sheer amount of competition there is for any one position? I have applied to hundreds of jobs and had several interviews over the years and at times was simply told that they found someone better suited to the position or that I am under-qualified. To those of you that think it's so easy to get work and that it's just a 1-2-3 thing, why not try looking at how many applications come in for the same thing in a typical retail environment? What do you tell the 998 people with nearly the same credentials who were rejected simply because the 2 that got hired either had the right connections or there was one tiny thing that could've turned the yes into a no?

Anyone with some sense in their head knows that it's almost never about what you know but who you know too. This is likely precisely where I am having trouble at yet my friend who doesn't go longer than a few months unemployed for the last 6 years and counting happens to know the 'right' people. I was surprised that companies now start checking people's credit and apply what they find to their hiring folks. Also, the real unemployment rate is a lot higher than the media usually states. If you ask me, working 5 hours a week shouldn't count as 'employed' yet the way the system is designed seems to believe it's fine.

This is not actually true. Mental illness does not deprive one of the capacity to contract, incompetence does. Mentally ill is a pretty big catch all for cognitive, psychological, and brain disorders... someone with chronic depression is mentally ill; however, still has the capacity to contract. What is required in order to determine if one has the capacity to contract is a competency hearing before the courts. I would suggest to you that only a very small percentage of people deemed to have a mental illness are deemed incompetent.
