well he is indian..not like from india but some sort of native american type of indian from canada and apparently they have special rights or something in america. you just have to have the right paperwork that proves you are that nationality and you just have to go through some formalities and you can be official here and get a green card. he's just been lazy but he told me it's just a matter of him finally doing it and he should be ok. we've joked many times like, "let's just get married it'll be easier".

i know him though, he's not anywhere near ready to ask me because he wants to be more financially stable and bla bla bla. it's not the time right now. i'm not working and we have a roommate and that would just be stupid.

also, when i went to renew my passport i saw several couples there to get married and it was kinda romantic in a stupid way. one of the girls was in a white dress and they were so happy to be getting married at a courtroom lol i can see us going to city hall and just doing it and then throw a party later. i'm sure our families would be pissed but whatever. we can throw a party later for everyone.

We did a proper reception a few months later with more extended family and friends (~85 people).

haha... dude, that's awesome. Sounds so much like my situation. I had like 20 people there. I just watched my 2 best friends do it the hard way- one had a huge wedding with like 300 people there, and both he and his woman's family had to have been broke as a fucking joke afterwards.

My other friend's girl had a poor family that couldn't afford anything, and his parents had just shelled out 25 grand for his sister's wedding... so the 2 of them had to pay for it themselves. $30,000. I mean, don't get me wrong it was a beautiful setup, but come on... now's not the time to be spending that kind of money. lol

yea that's pretty much insane. as much as i love to entertain and toy w/ the idea of throwing lavish parties, if i can't afford it, i'm sure as hell not going into debt over one day. that's the problem these days with couples...more specifically, the women. all they care about is the ring and the wedding. it's like get your priorities straight

depends on how private you are with your relationship. Private couple = small wedding

they'll get over it... haha. mine just say every now and then, "so, are you guys going to have an actual ceremony one day so we can all come?" I'm always like, "yeah we're working on it," but I don't know if I will really do it. Depends on the cash flow.

Our entire wedding/reception bill came to under $10K out the door. The actual ceremony was cheap, obviously, and my parents covered that. The reception cost about $100/head in attendance, but that included hors d'oerves (sp?), an excellent filet mignon (or alternative) dinner and open premium bar. The venue was relatively inexpensive because it was a restaurant and they were preparing the meals in their own kitchen. A good friend of mine was the DJ and we gave him a few hundred $ and access to food and open bar. Oh, and my parents paid for the reception, too.

Yeah, I made out like a bandit!

yea he doesn't pay taxes lol i bust his balls all the time about it. he's a straight up illegal alien. but he's eager to get citizenship ever since he met me because we want to travel together and he can't leave the country right now, which is what is putting a hold on our dominican republic plans his friends talked some sense into him (and me) and told him it's not worth it, he needs to get his paperwork done before he starts travelling outside of the U.S.

that sounds awesome usually it's the couples who keep it small and low key that are the happiest. rather than instantly arguing about money/debt right after the wedding. that'll kill any marriage (money probs right after the wedding).

100% agree. We initially were going to pay for it ourselves. We had more than enough $ to take care of it without worrying about future money issues. Instead, we used that money and other money we received as wedding gifts for a down payment on our house.

I think a lot of people can see the divorces coming waaay before they do. it's always the couples that when you hear they're engaged you're like WHAT?! THEM?!?!?! WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

You know when a couple is right for each other or not.

It was the opposite for us. For years our friends and relatives would constantly ask why we weren't married.
