I wouldn't count Lesnar out, but he still has a lot to prove. He did beat up Frank Mir pretty badly in the second fight, but in so doing he didn't do anything that Brandon Vera, Marcio Cruz, and Ian Freeman hadn't already done faster and more efficiently, and no one thinks that they are top tier heavyweights. It will take more than that to convince me that he's a serious danger to Fedor on the ground. |
Agreed, and it's never been my position that Lesnar WILL win. Just that many of the haters think it'll be an ass-wuppin', and I'm not convinced that'll be the case.
Couture was on pace to win his fight against Lesnar, and that WAS largely due to the fact Lesnar couldn't hold him down. Couture is also much beefier than Fedor, so it would be interesting to see if he could worm his way out from beneath him. In Lesnar's last fight against Mir, it looked as though he's gotten better at being patient and keeping his weight down.
Against Heath Herring he was still runnin wild with those sissy-girl, 17 punches in half-a-second flurries. Which owed much to the fight lasting til the end. In his last fight against Mir, he seemed to have stopped with the flurries, and started throwing much more powerful, and accurate punches.
In other words, he's improving in leaps and bounds so far, and by the time he fights Fedor (if ever), he could very well be the fighter who takes him out.

Bullshit.
