Im an unsigned producer I like and produce all types of underground dance music. My main love is drum n bass (shoot me down its all dark and associated with bad things rar rar rar) I love house, hardcore, breakbeat, old skool hardcore and obviously I love trance.

I started listening to dance music at a very early age and caught the wave of old skool hardcore and the early trance stuff in the early to mid 90's. When people ask me what music I like I state the genre I like, drum n bass usually gets a thumbs down and so does hardcore. If however I talk about trance and explain that I like artists such as PVD, Armin, Above & Beyond, Sander Van Doorn they look at me oddly to start with but when they google the said artists they tend to like what they hear. It seems commercial poppy trance clouds everyones perceptive of what real trance is all about.

I agree at some points the genre as a whole has slipped under the radar of late but if them chart listeners stuck there necks out and looked underground then maybe they would find out what the music is properly about.

I went to a trance event friday night and had a great time! from 9pm till 5am I was stompin away to uplifting, hard and tech trance and I loved it! Im not afraid to say I like trance and Im not afraid to say I love all the other types of electronic dance music that Im into.

I think if you take the time to explain to people what a genre is all about and for them to open there eyes more then they will understand what your talking about.

IMO cascada, scooter and basshunter are for the teenagers who have no knowledge outside of the charts

You better copy pasta save this post, it'll serve you well as your artist bio on myspace.

Indeed sometimes really funny and often surprising and very often annoying. But IMO the tracks they make are very, very well put together. Didn't keep up with them for the last few years, so decided to have a listen at the latest album UNDER THE RADAR OVER THE TOP!

Scooter - J'adore Hardcore

They are masters in stealing stuff, but no-one else can fit it in a totally different jacket that well.
I enjoy listening to all the samples and melodies they use, also in the background (with headphones).
I respect them for being around that long and still just doing what they like.

Yes, unlike PVD, Armin, Above & Beyond, Sander Van Doorn who are more underground than Dubfire.

Okay, so, all the bitching aside, let me ask you this: what IS exactly "quality" Trance (and Trance ONLY - not Progressive House or Hard Dance or any of that) you speak of? Provided that:

1. We all seem to agree that artists like Cascada or Basshunter, or DJ Sammy, etc. have nothing to do with "quality" and/or Trance.

2. There seems to be a disagreement on the topic of a DJ /Producer /Remixer being successful = commercial = not "quality". Which goes back to the question: does success = lack of quality? As well as, does underground [a.k.a. unknown-ness] = "quality"?

3. A lot of people on here seem to have an opinion that [almost] any given VOCAL Trance track (think "Unforgivable", "Break My Fall", "On A Good Day" or - more recently - "Man On The Run" or "Not Enough Time") is a piece of garbage.

4. Are artists like Markus Schulz, Cosmic Gate, Sied van Riel, Sander van Doorn, Myon & Shane 54, Gareth Emery, Rafaël Frost, Sean Tyas, Simon Patterson, Ummet Ozcan all also considered by you non-"quality", to put it in terms of the veterans of this forum?

Please enlighten me. Thanks.

P.S. Let's keep it Trance-related, since this is a discussion about TRANCE on TRANCE Addict.

Don't bother mate, you won't get anywhere. This forum has far too many people that are just past the point of no return when it comes to their thoughts about trance. There's always valid points but generally they are laden with so much biased bullshit it's actually funny and infuriating at the same time.
Then on the other side you have people that consider trance a gift from the Gods and think everything about it is great.

Neither side wins.

Great reply, actually - thanks for saying that. I think Trance has its' flaws and some of it is downright boring and/or cheesy, BUT this is a TRANCE gawd damn fucking website, so, it annoys the shit out of me when people keep on bitching about the genre as a whole left and right.

No it's not. It stopped being a purely trance site years ago. It caters for absolutely everything now and that's why it's great because there's a whole heap of different tastes and personalities.

Yes the name is misleading but you get used to it. We're not going to change the name of arguably the most popular EDM site just because trance isn't king anymore.

Yes, there is a lot of negativity particularly in MD but you get used to it. There's far too many asshats to bother fighting everyone. At the end of the day people have their own opinions and we'll continue to go in circles like we have for years. Meh.

Okay, I see. So then, perhaps, it's a waste of time for me - as someone who likes and spins Trance and Progressive House ONLY - to be on this site. I should go back to Trance.nu and such. Thanks for the clarification, though. Cheers.

It's not a waste of time, you just need to develop a tough skin to deal with it.

Quick question, do you ONLY spin those two genres because they're the only ones you like, or because you haven't and wont give other types of music a chance?
