You're right... I am a little emotionally riled up about the whole thing and it infuriates me that someone would have the audacity to run their mouths and spew a bunch of bullshit about an incredibly sensitive topic they are clearly uneducated on.

Unfortunately, this kind of problem is still seen as some sort of taboo in our culture, and his opinion is actually quite common. Maybe the extremely optimist accounts of free will that's been handed down to us by Christianity also includes the failure to recognise mental states as being as serious as physical illnesses.
