Much like my Balkan brother Moongoose, I got a sex education book for kids at an early age so never really needed any sex education.
I don't see what the point of keeping sex from kids is. It's not like if you teach a 5 year old how a baby is born, all of a sudden they will start having sex at 12.
Sex education should be a support tool to help kids make good decisions and drum into their heads how important protection is if they are going to do it.

I fully support programs like that.

You claim individual knowledge has improved in the last 70 years - if that were indeed the case, we should be considerably more enlightened as a whole. If individual knowledge has indeed improved, then we're making piss-poor use of it.

We have illegal aliens galore, I can walk 20 feet from my house and find a bum sleeping or begging for change, or a nasty ass hooker getting out of a car. I'm just taking care of my Grandma till she dies, she is 83 now then I'm going to school and booking out of Texas or maybe just another city. But I've lived in this neighborhood all my life, I know a lot of people here but it has progressively gotten worse over the last 10 years so I'll probably be booking.

who cares? my point was that on the whole, your average human is filled with more information than that same human a few hundred years ago. and by implication, this provides people with the opportunity to make informed decisions.

nothing is ever going to stop human greed or selfishness. so let's get that part out of the way. unless we learn to cleanse our spirit, the trauma will not go away.

So some are saying that it should be up to the parents to explain to the kids about sex, or that the kids should educate themselves about it when the time is right. And then i happen upon this news bit. A bit of an extreme case i admit, but a nice pointer on how thing can go if you leave education to the parents or kids themselves.

On the same train of logic, kids don't give a shit about French, or Math either, but we teach it to them anyway.

If we teach about sexuality and sex earlier, it wont be a taboo/funny subject to them because it will be like every other subject. It will get ignored (or paid attention to), just as much as any other subject. It seems that we get through to a lot of kids that age with math, so I am pretty confident we would get through to them about sex too.

You're basically saying "these kids don't give a shit, so don't bother", and with that attitude, you might as well say that you shouldn't be educating kids at that age at all.
