I noticed your living in North West just as I am and I know how tough it is to get a Job. Most degrees these days are not enough to land a average salary with many graduates fighting for a job. My friend did a Degree in Computer Science at Manchester University for 3 years and managed to get a student debt of around 10 grand which he will be paying off for the next 10 years. Anyway he never could get a job in IT sector as experience was required and he didn't have it so he used to work in a local bank earning around 17k and now he has lost his job and not even getting interviews.

I think a lot of subjects at School such as Religious Education , Languages and Physical Education is a waste of time , even A levels are pointless.

If you want to be a Lawyer or Doctor , Teacher go to university and get qualified and get training otherwise find something you want to do otherwise your going to be stuck in a 9-5 job earning average money doing clerical work. !

10 grand debt isn't bad. Mine is 7.5 grand a year...for 4 years! I've always seen my Degree as just a necessity in order to do my MSc or PhD. But sadly because of the economy there are up to 70 people fighting over each PhD placement...hence the stress to do well.

Not sure if you were talking about me but in North East (in Hull)

Will previously stated that he was receiving a disability benefit from the state. In Ontario that means either a Canadian Pension Plan Disability benefit (CPPD) or Ontario Disability Support Plan (ODSB) or both. The CPPD is not technically a form of state welfare, as the CPP is a plan that employed persons pay premiums to enter (manditory mind you) and elligability is based on the premium paid; much like a private pension plan. The ODSP is a form of state welfare as it is available to anyone who qualifies without any requirement that they have paid into the plan. Now, one could argue that the ODSP is not "welfare" as "welfare" in it's ordinary and customary useage in Ontario refers to Ontario Works (the general social assistance program), which is unrelated to the ODSP as the two are governed by entirely different statutes. That said, if one takes the proper use of the word "welfare," meaning the state funded/controlled social welfare system then yes, ODSP is a part of the welfare system.

If I recall correctly Bill has talked about his "business" before and it's more an odd jobs kinda thing but not physical work.... if I recall correctly. Most of us would look at this sort of thing as finding casual or short term contract work rather then a business; however, if he's registered as a business then he technically runs a business (actually, he need not even be registered to call himself a business).

Thx for confirming what I already suspected.

I guess what I was driving at in the US you can't hold a job and collect welfare or disability. He seems a little young with not enough full time work to be collecting any sort of a pension. Sounds like he's living off state aid and is hiding behind technicalities of whats it called but for all intensive purposes its welfare or mental disability since he appears physically fine besides the head tilt. Thus his "business" is doing odd jobs which he is paid under the table in cash. It's not like I care, just don't like ppl trying to misrepresent things. Washely gets defensive and angry when you say something that is too close to the truth that he's hiding from.

In Ontario receipients of either Ontario Works (social assistance) or ODSP (disabillity) can earn some modest income while collecting assistance. The income one earns is theirs to keep up to a certain threshold (I cannot recall what it is) afterwhich their benefit is decreased by the amount they earn over and above that threshold. So say one gets $520/month welfare, the threshold is $200 and they earn $300 employment income; then their welfare benefit would be reduced to $420/month (most of which would probably go to the aforementioned 420... see what I did there).

To qualify for CPPD one must make contributions for at least four of the six years preceeding their disability. So it's unlikely in Will's case, but possible.

Honestly... if that shit exists I'll probably be hanging out there with you. I'll talk to Mrs. Hazard, she should be in a position to get us both out.
