Which is exactly why your previous statement is invalid. What the list should be and what it actually is are two different things.

Have you seen all the top 100 djs djing live? No. You probably haven't seen less than 10 of them. But you most probably have listened at least 10 productions.

So don't blame people for voting them according to productions, with this actual format you enable that formations like Swedish House Mafia can be on the top because they're djs but people like Vincent de Moor or Andy Blueman can't because they're only producers and not djs.

Still i think that all the top 100 djs are also producers, Eddie Halliwell and very few exceptions to this i think, you can be a very good dj but to become international you need supporters in the U.S,China and Madagascar, it's very unlikely that a guy from Madagascar goes to your country to see you playing a set whereas is easy for him to check beatport/youtube whatever and listen to your production.

Another different thing is that some of the top 100 djs are good producers but their sets are awful, and i prefer a dj at the venue that makes a good track selection and avoids trainwrecking besides his productions sound like a monkey screaming than a dj whose productions are brilliant but is so boring.

It's a poll for the best / most popular DJ !!!!!!

You'd expect people to vote for a dj. If I would have voted for the poll, I would only consider DJ's that I've acutally seen. That's what I did for the TA DJ poll in each case.

Despite the name, that hasn't been the case for a long time now - if ever.

Sure, that's what it's supposed to be, but it's ridiculous to argue about this every single year when it clearly isn't what it says on the tin - no matter how loudly anyone yells about it.

Why, IMO you only need to have heard what he's playing?
Live sets, cd's, radio shows. You don't need to see him.

that's what I meant, I expessed myself not correctly. Not that it makes lots of difference as I've only listened to sets of John 00 Fleming (and to his radio show).

Ferry Corsten radioshow is crap but the same people say that he is brilliant live (relying a lot on his old productions but brilliant) , is not the same programming a radio show to listen at home than a live set.

Another example is Manuel le Saux. Top 20 tunes is very enjoyable, very good picks and melodic tracks, the problem is that he plays the same stuff live and with the same flawless transitions that involve playing nearly all the track and makes people exit the venue.

So if you vote for djing skills be sure to know if you are voting right, in J00fs case i only listened once to his radioshow but was one of the first trance events i went and he smashed me, a real dark set with some psytrance gems. I understand why people vote for him.

Last year i voted for Markus Schulz disregarding i don't like his productions anymore but catched him on a festival and his set was absolutely stunning, playing real heavy tracks and a lot of classics, he should have gone at 7am but played until nearly 8am because people wanted more and more.

However it's difficult to pick 5 djs that you know really well, just get this:

If you vote your favourite dj knowing him like your brother , as a dj not producer, be sure that half a million voted David Guetta because they like Sexy Bitch.

You don't think I am aware of that? I was merely suggesting that it's because people like srussell, with arguments like "SVD released 5 singles and an album", the list looks like it does.

You're being an obstinate fool. He's not saying SVD should do well in the poll due to his productions, he's making the totally valid observation that productions play a massive role in the voting, and SVD has been prolific and successful in this regard in 2010.

the list looks like it does because the guys that are at the top of the list - really want to be there. They PLay to huge numbers at big events then they have spam systems - email outs etc etc. to grab votes. they have management teams that facilitate this.

it has very little to do with production/djing (obviously people have to enjoy it to a degree)- it does have a lot to do with marketing strategy.

it seems like some guys who have been quite high in the past have actually given up on getting heavy votes in this poll these days.
