Actually, let me to ask you something: is bread supposed to be sweet in the US as well? It's hard to find salty breads around here, and I wonder if it's a Brazilian thing...

It can be sweet (and a lot of the times better breads are), but it's not a necessity. There aren't really salty breads here. The only thing I can think of are Weck rolls which have caraway seeds and salt covering them.

That's so weird... in my head bread is supposed to be salty, so I have a hard time here looking for baguettes and "frenchies" (which are the closest things I can find that resembles an actual Brazilian bread around here).

But I pretty much gave up on that

No, most breads in the US are not sweet, but then again most breads are dinner breads. We have plenty of sweet breakfast pastry breads, but they are all european creations.

I only had a few dinner roles at some restaurants and they tasted like normal dinner breads.

I think the Japanese just like sweet morning breads, even if its a plain roll.

I am not sure what you mean by salty though...

Mmmmmm. Rare as it may be, I have to love that moment when a yank finally "gets it".

No, I've gotten it for a long time, but seeing it, just how MUCH better it is is amazing.

My dad has traveled all over Europe extensively for many years (most recently spending a month on the French coast ) and said that the standard of living in Japan is higher (though he doesn't agree with the pace of living there).
