only plausible reason is that the other parties plan suck so the only option left is either vote for a minority gov and get teh same crap as the last x years.....or see what can happen w/ a majority..

majority does seem scary however....but in the end....none of the parties will perform better than the other....its a pile of shit in the end.

Plus ppl are iffy about Iggy seeing he left Canada for decades and he is back now.

If you don't want to vote Conservative, vote for the NDP or Green Party or if your tired of Quebec try and vote for the Bloc, but the Bloc probably doesn't have anyone outside or Quebec lol

I was thinking the same thing today. It's really baffling!

Exercises in hypocrisy.

These kinds of people are fully aware of the kinds of things their party stands for, are fully supportive of it, and have no problem with their party purporting itself to be something it's not so long as they feel they will get their desired social and fiscal policies in the end.

These are the one who were the loudest trumpeting about "ADSCAM" in 2004/2006, yet are suspiciously absent and silent now that their own government has been found to carry out greater abuses.

The ones who support their party having spent months attacking the character of its' official opposition yet pretending to have not been looking for an election.

The ones who support their party leader using the spectre of the "coalition" as a fear-mongering rally point, and easily overlook both the fact that their party leader courted the very same thing as well as that there is nothing actually wrong with this established reality of our kind of political system (and have no problem with the fact that some of our bigger allies often govern on such a coalition.)

And then... have the balls to say that the opposition are the ones who will do or say anything to gain power.

Hopefully next month the smarter elements of Canada's population will be hitting the ballots instead of remaining home and watching it all sort itself out.

Wow, this thread really turned into a centre-left circle jerk.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, none of the parties really represent me. The Conservatives are really just a bunch of Ernest Manning SoCred wannabes. There are notable exceptions (e.g. Mike Chong in Wellington), but I'm also willing to bet that if things get too stupid, he'll be one of the first to cross the floor. There's nothing progressive about the Cons.

The Liberals are are a rudderless ship. Iggy doesn't impress me. Their campaign platform does not inspire voter confidence, and they simply don't seem to have a plan.

The Greens are just the Liberals with an environmental bent.

The NDP will take us down the road of Greece, Ireland, and Portugal. Having to borrow cash to keep basic services afloat won't inspire confidence from investers. 12-15% unemployment won't make for a vibrant economy.

At the end of the day, I almost hope for a Con majority because as damaging as it would be, it's the only way to get rid of Iggy and Layton, and get the three left wing parties talking merger.

It would result in Harper being walked too.

I know what you mean. I asked the exact same question in 2006.

At times I almost feel sorry for Harper during this debate but then he opens his mouth and it just reinforces why I despise the man and can't believe a word he says.

So far I like the way Iggy is handling himself.

Agreed. He is doing much better then I thought. It is pathetic how Harper is dodging every question on Democracy and changing it back to the Economy.
