this is simply not true...for the big players it is the biggest revenue stream available.

i'm really starting to think you are just talking about what you think is going on, and not what i8s actually fact.

Live nation did lose 228 million last year. Not peanuts. But that doesn't mean U2 and bonjovi and similar tours didn't make money. Live nation are HUGE! And they still gave their CEO a nice raise.

Live Nation is the company doing the U2 Tour and they do multiple events in this city, including at the dome...they may have dibs without even paying up front.

And no nothing was 'pushed out' by Deadmau5, it's just that the date can no longer be in November...the original intended date. Deadmau5 is not the promoter, he's a hired DJ/performer doing the event for the touring company Live Nation. The same people that own Live Nation own the mouse's booking agency/talent agency. It's possible that he's their experiment to enter into the dance music market. For many years corporate interests have scratched their heads trying to get into the dance scene, as they are desparate to make money. They are losing money BIG TIME in the rock scene. Rock touring is almost dead. Last year the company posted a big Net Loss and had to adjust much of their operations. It will be interesting to see if they make any progress in the dance music market.

Your first paragraph is what I found really confusing. You seemed to be trying to describe some sort of time line and it wasn't very clear (at least to me). As Glen said, the message was quite cryptic. I got that there was supposed to be an announcement in June after a meeting in May. But then you said something about the first weekend of the month. What month? May, June...or was it November? And what would be the problem with having your event the weekend after you had planned it? There are numerous EDM events every weekend, with different DJs and different styles of EDM so your event still may have the potential to bring in a lot of people.

Also, I used the phrase "pushed out" b/c you said it yourself in that the company may have specifically scheduled Deadmau5's event on the wknd you intended to have your event.

It's possible they positioned the event exactly on the first weekend, knowing it would push us out, as November was the intended month, and there's no way we are positioning the event the weekend after let alone in the same month.

When it comes down to it, I agree with some of the other posters. I wouldn't want EDM events to be any more commercialized than they already are.

technically they did "lose" that money, but it isn't really a loss. To get bigger you spend, check back 2 years from now. They really are making huge moves to secure top position.

Their stock is actually at a very sweet spot right now (low...buy it

I'm starting to get that idea. I'm not sure why though, I would think that people would want new promoters in the market, for more events to go to.

I'm used to that though Beta. In my mid twenties I created a product and I had various people with the same response

Oh it was a 228 million investment? The dissapointing 2010 results were tied directly to poor ticket sales by Live Nation themselves. I'm just stating that Santiago wasn't completely wrong although he may be somewhat crazy.

I do value the input you guys are saying what you want and don't want. I'm writing it all down. One of the reasons for coming on a great forum like this is to speak directly to the scenesters. That and the fact that I'm a Trance collector for years.

It's amazing seeing the next generation emerge. The flyer for the Axwell event outside of Toronto is well done.

Zyklon, I'm not going to comment on Live Nation as it doesn't concern me anymore. You sound like an employee of theirs or something. I'm not sure why you are so concerned with what they are doing...I'm not. It appears that my comments have enraged you - I didn't mean to do this.

>i would be interested to know where you got your info on most touring >acts losing money.

I never said the touring acts lost money, I meant the corporation posted a Net Loss...and I can't remember when I read it, it may have been within the past 3 years. I don't care what the 'big players' make. I'm not concerned about Rock acts from the 80's. I don't know anything about Rock, except that I like The Smiths.

I've logged your comments on the not wanting cheese.

Bryce there's no hate on my end, that would be insane. I just think you don't know what you're talking about. Obviously I wish you the best in whatever you're trying to do. The music industry is crazy, fun and lucrative if you can work it. These last 10 years for me have been blood sweat & tears but it's the best job in the world & I wouldn't trade it in for anything!

That's good to know. I was talking about the Zyklon guy, who keeps cheer leading for Live Nation, not you. And I do value your opinion on your information and my information.
