I didn't even get my daughter's ears pierced because I view it as a decision only she has the right to make. I'm with you on this point Jay... if it isn't medically necessary any decisions with regard to modifying one's body should be left up to the individual to make when they are of sufficient competence to make them. My son will be more then welcome to get circumcised should he choose that for himself. This is a reflection of my personal values though, I don't impose them on others.

Please note; I am not in any way suggesting that anyone who does have their son(s) circumcised is making a poor decision or has done anything disagreeable.

I agree with all of this as well. The day (if i have one...i'll be punished and have 5 girls, watch this) my son says, "Dad I want to be circumcised.", I will be on the phone within minutes making the appointment to have it done if I believe it is what he truly wants.

To me it isn't about him looking the same as me. To me, it is about giving someone the proper information and letting it run with it how they see fit. I'm no parent, but I'm pretty sure that the motives behind most of my future parenting will be along those lines. Preparation to be who they want vs molding them to be what you want.
