Isn't there a "parent's basement" discount?

I'm amazed by how much some people pay for car insurance.

I've got a 500bhp Mercedes S Class, am 28yrs old with no violations, am a homeowner and live in the suburbs. Pay $410 every 6 months with Allstate for some swanky policy.

Only thing I upped was my deductible to $1000 because I did the maths based on how often I've ever claimed on car insurance (never) and figured that was a nice sweet spot.

Putting aside age, driving history, car type, and coverage, it pays to change companies every few years. In my experience if you stay with a company too long they gradually increase your rates. Most people are too complacent to change and insurance companies take advantage of this. Progressive takes higher risk drivers and is a better deal for that class, while low risk drivers do better elsewhere.

Nice one for the bump, cliff.

Update on my Speeding ticket: As mentioned, I was not allowed to do traffic school as I'd already done it the last 18 months (new Cali state law). Paid a ticket lawyer to challenge it but he said the odds weren't good.

So they postponed the hell out of each stage (hearing, arraignment, trial date) and then about a month ago on the trial date ago I got the word that it was dismisssed! Hell Yes!.

Turned out that moody CHP officer failed to show so instant dismissal.

Cost me $300 for the lawyer but I save probably 5 times that in potential insurance increase so all good. It's also been so long now that if I happen to get another speeding ticket I could do traffic school again.

Back OT, it does pay to keep switching insurance companies; each one wants to steal the business so they'll keep undercutting. They also try to screw those too lazy to switch.

The best tip (for the homeowners out there) is to shop the home and auto together; you'll get much better rates.

Just did a quote with Allstate, and its still high but at least quite a bit cheaper than fucking Progressive, about 270$ per 6-month period cheaper.

I guess with no credit score and living in a city with shitty drivers, my rates are gunna be high. Oh well.

My rate went down this year. By a few bucks only, but I'll take it! :

Nothing anymore, it's why I can afford condoms now. I still won't use them though. I just put them in various places around my apartment like a frat boy with empty hooch bottles.
