Lol what kind of fucking moron spends 400 bucks on drinks on a night out? If the music is on point you should be spending your time on the dance floor, not at the bar with all the other obnoxious drunks.

I was thinking about this whole debate about dresscodes in clubs for a bit yesterday and I think a key point that hasn't been mentioned yet is that dressing up doesn't equal dressing up. A lot of people have a problem with clubs that have a dresscode of 'dressing nice or fancy' because 'dressing nice' inevitably refers to a way of dressing that is equaled with money and power in our society. Enforcing that means in a way importing classic outside power structures into the realm of clubbing. Where's the escapism in dressing the same way I would on a casual friday at work? While some would also call the 'dress code' of clubs with a LGBT-background discriminatory, the key difference is that these are the dresscodes of marginalized groups that have nowhere else to dress up, dressing 'nice' will advantage you in many areas of life outside of clubbing, dressing gay or outrageous will get you harassed and discriminated out in the daylight.

Exactly. In fact, it's even more direct than that, because it means "If you can't afford to dress to a certain standard, you aren't allowed inside".

Say some kid wanted to see Kerri Chandler as well. He's broke, he hasn't got any smart clothes suitable for dancing but he's totally into the music and he wants to see one of his favourite DJs. But Kerri Chandler is playing at one of RANN's "really nice clubs" and RANN's desired door policy is in effect. Result? The kid can't get to hear the music he loves and see a DJ he loves. Why? So RANN can feel good in his aesthetic appreciation of those around him. Tough break kid. Come back when you're rich.
