to the guy saying that Adam and Eve contradicts the evolution theory, you shouldn't take literally everything that's written in the bible, that Adam and Eve story and kinda most bible's passages are just methafors so that the people at the time would understand it. I've seen priests confirming this and confirming the evolution theory.

I don't really know in what to believe from all of this theories.. I don't believe in everything I read in bible but I don't think either you die and then that's it. My personal theory would be that God is an alien being (technically, God is not from earth so he's an alien) and teached people how to live in common in a harmonic way.. but people tended to misunderstand him and have completely terrible interpretations of religion (11 September, for ex.). I believe religion itself it's more of a motivation for we to live together in peace than something that limitates us and obrigates us to devote our lifes to a god.
The biggest problem of this theory is that.. it doesn't reveal at all what happens after death.

you shouldnt? um, why didnt god say it was a metaphore? how do we humans really know what god meant if he didnt specify and decided to be so vague

maybe 'thou shalt not steal' is actually a metaphor for how we should all live under social life where there are no property rights and everyone shares everything.... hmmmmmm

if you start bringing in the whole metaphor crap, it leaves the whole interpratation of the bible up for grabs... seems like if god really cared for his people and wanted to show them the light of the path to heaven he would have been more clear.

ahm..I Do think u should take it as metaphor. Theres still a big significant difference beteen the Genesis story(!) and the ethics CODE which was directly aimed for the people.

Well, if you want to take genesis as a metaphore, that's ok, but the problem with most religious people in america is that genesis is taken literally, which totally doesn't make sense. Now, there are some minor groups in europe which take it literally as well, but they are a neglegable minority among religious people. In america, however, they're not so neglegable, in fact, i believe there are more religious types that don't believe in evolution than there are the ones that do.

Quite plainly, it doesn't contradict the Church's teachings because the Church teaches it.

I know that was a bad answer, but think of it in relation to the following: The Old Testament is not God's complete message in the sense that the New Testament is required to complete it. If you look at Salvation History, you see God revealing different things at different times, in little steps. As a result, some people misenterpret the Old Testament and say it is full of contradictions. There's a ton, but if you look at it from the perspective of a "bigger picture," everything fits into place.

As a result, we can look at the story of Adam & Eve and all of Genesis simply as what God wanted to reveal to people at that time. It's not the truth in the sense that its what really happened, but rather a story by which we can discern God's true intentions.

If you look at science from the perspective that it is something God created to suit His and our own purposes, and see the story of Adam and Eve as a story of motive rather than fact, it becomes apparent that there really is nothing wrong with evolution. God made science, and through it he moulded humans. If you remember the whole notion of human souls, there really can be nothing about evolution that opposes the Church's teachings.

Ummm... 'thou shalt not steal' is a moral law and as such is not open for interpretation. There's nothing to misenterpret... it's always meant don't take what isn't yours and it will never mean anything else.

Of course the objective law isn't the only part to morality and as such the intention and the situation must be taken into account... but there is still nothing vague about the law itself. There are no ambiguities in something absolute and universal, and God never intended for there to be, so you're going to need a better example to defend your argument.

And God didn't say the story of Adam and Eve was a metaphor because at the time that's not what He wanted people to understand it as... read my point above.

First of all, morality is completely clear and that's enough to get you into Heaven, regardless of religion.

And it doesn't bring the whole interpreation of the Bible up for grabs... you have to look at it from the big picture, as I've said a hundred times before in this post.

Be Cool!

Tha bible is a compeling story of a manz life who thought living without greed ignorance and hate was tha way to go. So whats to think about or contradict? tha message is to live in peace and keep an open mind. WTF ARE U GUYZ DOING READING INTO IT SO MUCH!!!??? evolution ? MEtaphorz? science hasent actually found all tha missing pieces in evolution to link us DIRECTLY to apes. SO UNTIL THAT HAPPENS U CANT REALLY DO ANYTHING. THERES NO PROOF. And even if there was. what difrence would it make? maybee wed have to admit that we are wrong about somthing one more time in history. Kinda like tha world being flat. SO WHAT!!! big deal!!! tha message is still tha same.
