*Thinks* knowing is a completely different matter. The difference between a tyrannical dictatorship and it's opposite, is whether or not government troops march into your home and take your family away. North Korea is a tyrannical dictatorship, they can play the diplomatic game all they want to cover up that all they want, but am I fooled. NO!
The world is divided between democratic countries and despotic dictatorships, our leaders & corporations dont seem to care or notice this anyways, all they are interested in is their bottom line, especially when it comes to China, perhaps one of the most ruthless regrimes of the 20th century. Gotta love our most favored nation trading partner.
Which brings me to the morons who want to free Tibet. That's not possible without an all out war with China, and these are the same people who are probably against war in the first place. So free-tibet is meaningless jargon, not backed up with any means to free tibet in the first place. Free Kuwait, well that was a relatively easy task, but nobody seemed to want to free Kuwait, they were mostly opposed to the war or any effort to free Kuwait what so ever. In fact I never even heard the phrase free Kuwait uttered. Instead what moronic tripe did I hear. OIL, that's all I ever freakin hear. Basically the illogic goes like this.
Free Country X... unless they have oil...
None of these oil idiots was complaining when we were bombing the hell out of Yugoslavia. I guess it's ok to bomb innocent civilians in countries that dont have oil, but not so if they do.
Which brings me to the point about tyrannical dictators, you cant argue with them, mere words and negoiations are not effective with these kinds of rulers, force is the only option. Europe tried appeasement in WWII, it didn't work, supposably there was a lesson to be learned from WWII, but everyone these days is flunking that lesson.
Finally to my thoughts on war, I absolutely cant stand most of what the anti-war movement has to say, it's just ludicrious nonsense. However, I will say this, war is a bad thing, seeing half-mangled bodies, tanks rolling over people, people losing legs to land mines. These are the ugly realities of war.
I'm absolutely sick of hearing the phrase no blood for oil. If people are going to sacrifice their lives their should be something gained in the process. As it stands we probably are not going to get any oil out of this, if we were intelligent Vikings, we would plunder their oil reserves while we are there. This probably wont happen. Ultimately we will probably end up installing the General who gased the Kurds as the successor to Saddam Hussein. (who is the leading candidate on the list of people to replace Saddam last I checked) And judging by George Bush's horrendous economic results & huge deficits, I wouldn't be surprised that he will be the one picked.
This could very well be one of the most pointless wars in human history. There are two essential questions one should ask before considering a war.
1) What do we stand to gain from the war? Aquisition of land, resources, prime farming ground, etc.
2) What is the threat posed by the enemy in question.
The answer to 1) Saddam has oil, but will we plunder his reserves to make this war worthwile? I guess I have to wait to see the answer.
The answer to 2) No, Saddam is not a threat, lots of countries have stockpiles of chemical weapons, and we have no evidence of Saddam having a Nuclear Arsenal, or any where near close to Nuclear capability.
So to conclude I fail to see the logic in wasting money on a war to get absolutely nothing in return. Then again with $1 trillion budget deficits over the next 5 years, I fail to understand a lot of things about George Bush. But as Republicans say, deficits are a good thing, lowering taxes raises tax revenue, etc, etc, etc. Maybe they should say, going to war causes population growth. It would fit in with Republican line of logic.
