It could have been a lot worse. Luckily I used Turbo tax all these years and when you check the box that you live in NY city it estimates the amount of tax you should pay based on gross income so I have been paying it but at the end of the year and it has not been deducted from my company. If I would have strictly used the information on my W2 to file for the pervious 5 years then I calculated that I would have ended up owing the city $4,740.

I just got a little raise because my annual review just passed and since they are going to take the money going forward I am going to be getting paid less but hopefully that means since I am paying it throughout the year I will get a bigger return at the end of the year. I also asked around to other co-workers that live in the 5 boroughs and they have told me that payroll called them also. Apparently they did an audit of all of the employees and are just now discovering this. I don't even know who's mistake this was and if there person is even still here, so of course they have to point the finger at someone to cover their asses and they are blaming us.
I got comments like:
1. Well may be you didnt report to us that you lived in the city.
2. Oh well have you ever moved since you were working here.
3. Why didn't you take notice to your paychecks and TELL US something. (like I would notice something like that)
4. and the best one of all....Well we really have sooo many employees that it is hard to keep track and that is why we do these occassional audits.
TOTAL BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
