been sick the last week which messed me up, but am back on track since today.
just to show how cool i think my gym is, it's all about the training, this was the new years welcome letter to members:
"Wishing you all a very Happy New Year with all your goals and projects coming to fruition.
Your good health and well-being is a goal close to our hearts and minds, and one we hope to help you take care of this year. From a practical point of view, the gym is really a programme that you’re on, as opposed to something that you’re just enrolled in. And in regard to that programme, it’s what you do – as in action - that makes the difference. It’s, for example, how often you train, how well you train, what you eat, what supplements you take. These are the building blocks that make up the programme. The more solid your foundation of building blocks, the better the results from the programme.
This year in the gym we held two figure and physique contests which were the first we have held in almost 10 years. Apart from the excitement and general buzz around the time of each show, the contests did lead people to reach a shape that they might not otherwise have attained. Which brings us to one thing that we have learned from working with people: if you really want results at the gym, the thing to aim for is getting into such shape as excites you, and makes you feel good. The effect this has is to take your mind off the effort involved and to focus it more on the intended results.
The most successful physique star of the twentieth century believed that you had to keep visually reminding yourself of the body you wanted in order to keep yourself motivated. He maintained that he couldn’t wait to get to the gym, to do another workout, because he could see that every workout was bringing him closer and closer to the goal he had set for himself. Other guys would get discouraged thinking about doing another workout, but he couldn’t wait to get at it. Subsequently he became Mr Universe, a Hollywood star and is now governor of California. He is of course, Arnold Schwarznegger.
Now your goals may be very different from his but the method you use to attain them is actually really the same. Give yourself a big enough ‘carrot’ to get you moving forward. If you’re not motivated from within to get to the gym, to follow your dietary plan etc, you haven’t given yourself a clear enough reason to do the things. So clarify for yourself what you want out of it all.
You can say that imagination is stronger than willpower. So by getting your imagination to work for you the effort is removed from the equation.
All you need to do is decide exactly what will excite you, what results are going to do it for you. Remind yourself regularly about them. Remind yourself of your reasons for doing the diet, doing the training, being on the programme. As well as that, be on the programme as well as you can. It’ll get easier to do as the imagined results start to become reality.
See you soon in the gym,
Best regards,
Conor and Eileen"
