Whatever happened to Bride Price? (a gift of money or goods from the groom or his kin to the briedes kin. The gift usually grants the groom the right to marry the bride and the right to her children)

[nerd]

just out of total randomness, its called a dowry and its usually given by the bride's family to the groom for accepting their daughter, but it has been used both ways

dowry

(mohar; i.e., price paid for a wife, Gen. 34:12; Ex. 22:17; 1 Sam. 18:25), a
nuptial present; some gift, as a sum of money, which the bridegroom offers to
the father of his bride as a satisfaction before he can receive her. Jacob had
no dowry to give for his wife, but he gave his services (Gen. 29:18; 30:20;
34:12).

dowry

\Dow"ry\, n.; pl. Dowries. [Contr. from dowery; cf. LL. dotarium. See Dower.] 1. A gift; endowment. [Obs.] --Spenser.

2. The money, goods, or estate, which a woman brings to her husband in marriage; a bride's portion on her marriage. See Note under Dower. --Shak. Dryden.

3. A gift or presents for the bride, on espousal. See Dower.

Ask me never so much dowry and gift, and I will give . . .; but give me the damsel to wife. --Gen. xxxiv. 12.

[/nerd]

Just so you know, the Bride Price, is the gift from the groom the the bride and bride's family. The Dowry, is a substansial transfer of goods or money from the bride's family to the bride. Two different things. Thats how it is in this book that I'm studying from anyway.

I think the dowry works both ways, as the father of the bride (dower) or as the man trying to give dowry for the hand of a female, but regardless its 12:17 am and I'm discussing dowrys 7 years after I took family history and human psych hahaha

Random thought: Dark Angel is mean for just abruptly ending a conversation as he did.

Premedidated thought: DarkAngel is unclear as to the meaning of "BUMP you," but it sounds too simliar to "F U."

"BUMP you" by definition is a light hearted joke meaning "well thats not fair" or "hey! tell me!" or anything of the sort. Has nothing to do with the similar "F U". It is normally stated with a "bff" bumping noise.
