Ok, so my review is a few days late, but i needed the time to recuperate after a really good night at the Guvvie.
Got there with a few friends at around 11:15, and waited for around 20 mins to get in. Thankfully it wasn't too cold, so after paying we made our way into the KH. G & D were spinning, and although i was only around to catch 30 mins of their set, it was nonetheless a pleasent suprise. In all honestly, trance is now probably my third favorite after breaks and house, but these guys have a decent sound and they had the crowd going quite well. After making our way through the orange room which was blasting some hip hop, i caught the beginning of Anne Savage who i honestly had high expectations from. Unfortunately, i didn't really get into her set, and the guy with the whistle going 24-7 really started to bug me. So...Charlies was the next destination, and boy was it a good one. Breaks was the dish on the menu, and the crowd was hyped. Five minutes into the room and there was already a square off of some of the best dancers i have seen in the Guvvie. The thing that set Charlies apart from the other rooms was that it had it's own coat check, plenty of room, and a fucking air con system that actually worked. Oh, and did i forget to mention, some breaks DJ's who knew how to throw it down !
After a few hours in the breaks room, i was able to do the rounds again. So after checking out the acid lounge which was another great place to chill for a few minutes i made it back onto the Guv floor where Anne Savage was holding court. Yeah, the crowd seemed to enjoy her set, but i can't say i was feeling the hard house sound. Must give the guverment crew big ups for managing the flow of people as well. There was a time during Labor of Love when it seemed that just getting from one place to the other would take half an hour. But for whatever reason, for the past few events even though the number still appear to be at dangerous levels, the flow from the multiple rooms is significantly better.
Finally ended up at KH to hear Rank 1 drop their set. Tbe crowd had thinned somewhat from G&D, but there was still quite a few hands in the air as anthems were churned out by the guys from Holland. Once again, it wouldn't be fair for me to comment on the quality, because i haven't really be impressed with the state of trance for the last few years, but it was the kind of stuff that Rank 1 fans expected them to play. Euphoric, hands in the air as lush synths and pads floated overhead...It was good, it had a classic feel about it, it was Ultra Spin 4 !
Thanks for John T for getting me onto the Guestlist ( Didn't get a chance to use it cause one of my friends had a bigger group down...thanks nonetheless)
Shouts to Nat...the only TA i managed to spot. ( Damn you TOTA's...where do you guys lurk anyway ?
BTW. I was looking forward to Deko-Ze and Jelo, but didn't see them spinning...did i miss something ? Wasn't it supposed to be in the KH ?
Breeeeeakzzz....the sound of 2004 !
