i would gladly pay 30 bucks to get into guv main room if they sold tickets and didn't let anyone in at the door - and had a cap on the crowd.

then you'd get people comign to see the DJ, not goign for a night out at the guvernment.

sure there was tons of people to see ferry - just look at our little cross section of society. but there was all the people that were saturday night regulars at guv.

i know around 15 people from hamilton area that come to guv every saturday - it's just their thing.

i wish more people were about the music and not about the money

What guv has is a crowd displacement problem. Lets say guv fills it to legal capacity and everyone in all the other rooms decide to party in the guv. Then you have a crowd problem. In this thread alone people have said they paid for the kool haus event just to bypass the longer line (and then buy a bracelet).

Not to say that charles is not responsible for it, but i think he is demonized to often in this forum.

Over the years people complain about the same shit every party. If theres a pary in the guv and a well liked dj expect a large crowd. If you dont like it dont go.

What makes me laugh is, if charles were to raise the prices for special events to decrease the number of patrons, this forum would be calling him a greedy bastard even more.

well i'm pretty sure the majority of the people in the guv saturday night would have gladly payed an extra $5 or $10 to avoid what went on...imo

and you're right, crowd displacement is the problem since you have people filling the guv from several different rooms however with bouncers at each door wearing headsets it could be quite easy to control the number of people entering and leaving the guv main room...other bars do it, the guv for some reason doesn't...

diginut ~ first off, thanks for not flaming me!! hehe! i had put on my flamesuit already!

but yes, i do agree with the safety factor! ur definitely right on that. it was also a heated point of discussion after the Tiesto @ ARIA Dec. 2003 event - hence, ARIA has vowed to never overpack the club again and has actually stuck to its promise ever since!

I got there at 2 and stayed until about 7:30 ... The music was great and I really enjoyed Ferry's set but it was way too packed in there and I only ventured to the main room after 4am..

It sucks when the music is so good and you have no room to dance to it - not to mention how hot it was at some points. I find it funny that none of the fans on the wall in the main room were turned on - why was that ?

I'm not from Toronto, I'm just here for a while, and I'll tell you, you should be grateful. Not only do the biggest names in Trance come to Toronto, you have clubs as large as Guv where you can actually fit more than 1000 people, which means that prices are lower than they might be otherwise. Lazers and Phazon are just a bonus.
On the downside, paying $6-$8 for a drink sucks.

I gotta say, I used to go to the Guv maybe 3-5 times/year. Then I went to Labour of Love with AVB a couple years back. That was by far the worst clubbing experience I've ever had with regards to overpacking/overheating the place. Since then, it's been the same story every time I've gone, I've learned to expect that this is how the experience will be. There are exceptions where I'm willing to battle the crowded events (like Ferry on Saturday). GREAT event... just not as fun as it could have been with ROOM TO DANCE... I still had a good time tho, don't get me wrong.

My point here is that I used to go many times/year, in comparison to my visits now. I will MAYBE go to the Guv once/year now because I expect it to be overpacked and way too hot. Obviously by keeping it at capacity, the heat will not be as much of an issue either. Hell, I'd gladly pay more for a ticket to have more room to move, but I can go to 3 or 4 other clubs around TO now that I know will have phenominal DJs like Ferry and I can breath and dance the way people should be able to at a club.

I still give props to Guv for their efforts, but you really need to twist my arm a lot harder to get me to go there anymore.

Cheers,
