my only question is, which came first? the ignorant/thug-like black culture attitude, or BET, which would have CAUSED it?

Good point. btw, tv isn't the best media to base your opinion of what any culture is like. Hell, what sort of opinion would you have of teens if you just watched TRL? Bottom line movies and tv capitalize on stereotypes to make money. Other thing BET is a black channel what other unique black culture characteristic would you rather have shown? Hip hop-Rap-R&B/thug/slang lifestyle comes from black culture whether you like it or not. Sure there are other things like Jazz and Blues, but if you haven't noticed pop culture isnt interested in either. This isn't black vs white issue it's more about what pop culture in this country values. Don't blame it on BET.

i'm hispanic by the way, not that it should matter but to some i know it will make a difference...

i think it is easier for a young black you from the ghetto to watch something like BET because it would be easier for him/her to associate with it..

much like some hispanic person who just came over and doesn't quite speak english well, to watch telemundo or univision.

try to sit either down and watch something like Frasier, they would be like WTF and maybe not get the jokes. shite, sometimes i don't get all the jokes.

the only solution is education on either accounts. the opportunities are there, it just falls on the person to want to improve. of course they could be happy with their current situation, in which case i don't believe we are entitled to tell them any different.
