Most definately the silent hill series.. Number 2 was a disappointment though. But considering the second wasn´t relevant for the whole story, f**k it!

When I was little XCOM UFO Defense used to scare me to death, those terror missions.

The Scariest game I've played ever was Silent Hill 2, but Fatal Frame, its sequel, and F.E.A.R. are pretty dang spooky

for some reason FEAR is about 1/3 as scary as DOom3

the FEAR demo was insanely scary, unfortunatly they put all the most scary scenes into the demo which left the retail with little suprises left, a dissapointment sadly. I strongly recommend "condemned" from the same authors instead.

Doom 3 was scary as hell at first, but like so many other games, it gets monotone after a while and you get bored and just run through it all, kinda like Pryda's "Aftermath"

I agree with what the above has written about "Alien vs Predator", it was even scary in Multiplayer, something I had never experienced before. imagine last man standing, being the only marine left against 5 Aliens in a very dark environment with only your flashlight as help, amazing!

As for the most scary game ever for me was Alone in the Dark when it first arrived in the early 90s, I never liked the Resident Evil games, zombie hack'n'slash is hardly scary.

Silent Hill on the other hand, if you think that you have played the scariest game, think again and run to your retailstore and grab as many of the Silent Hill series as you can before they dont release any more boxes (Silent Hill 2 is impossible to get today sadly)
I have played and own all of the Silent Hill games (And I'll never sell!) and its something you'll never experience in another game, if you have played these, there's nothing left to be afraid off

1. Silent Hill 2 - not only the best horror game ever made, but THE best game ever made, interesting story, many endings and just like all the silent hill games, it plays with your head more then just give you creepy monsters.

2. Silent Hill 3 - far more disturbing then the second game but the story lacks the "special" feeling you got with Silent Hill 2

3. Silent Hill - This is the game of the series I got my hands on last actually, and after have played 2,3 and 4 this is close to the 2nd most scary of the games in the series, extremly disturbing and with most excellent puzzles!

4. Silent Hill 4 - Extremly disturbing and the claustrophobic feeling you get from being trapped in your apartment is great!

of course the soundtracks to all the games is outstanding aswell.
okay im finished propaganding for the Silent Hill series now, but if you havent played any of them already, I ENVY YOU AND DAMN YOU TO HELL!
