Why? That was how I met my last girlfriend. It was getting towards the end of the night, I was standing off to the side with a beer while my friends were dancing (think Phil K was playing at this stage - couldn't get into the breaks) when a girl walks past, kinda doubles back and then says to me "Hey, weren't you at Anthony Pappa a few weeks ago?". Now Melbourne has a pretty tight-knit, incestuous prog community so it didn't suprise me that someone recognised me from one of these nights (although I was pretty amazed that she'd be able to remember me from like a month earlier), so we got talking about music, then some other stuff and the rest is history.
I recommend you go down there. If you know he's into trance then you've got something in common and something you know you can talk about with him. You're not going to look like a stalker if you go up to him and try to start a conversation with him about the music you're both listening to (hell, I start conversations about the music in a club with random people all the time - it doesn't mean I want to pick them up). Besides, what have you got to lose?
