That's called Electro. And by first techno track I meant the first track that coined the word techno for the genre. No...Techno City isn't synthpop, it's too minimal, repetitive, and mechanical. Like Techno.

'Clear' is more electro I suppose myself as well ...

'Techno City' is synth-pop, however I guess then it will be 'Cosmic Cars' as techno for the first track. My fav Cybotron's production behind Clear for sure. First came out in 82-83 as well, before the Techno City.

Anyhow, seems like a tough debate on this first techno track selection. I dont think that Juan Atkins' "Techno Music" track from early 1980s was ever released on vinyl, as I strongly believe it to be the first TECHNO track. There are no releases of it on Discogs, but I have the full original version, and from what I know its from 1984-1985. I read in the book "Techno rebels" by Dan Sicko about that lenedary track, dont remember for sure if it was the first one. Easy to confuse Juan's early electro stuff with the coming of techno but I know for sure the first techno track came when he was one of the first people to get that new Roland machine.

See this compilation, featuring the best of the best in detroit from the 1980s. That 'Techno Music' track is on it, but it seems like it was never released by itself ...

Early techno sounded a lot like electro. A lot of informed people call Clear techno.

That is true, but if Electro and Techno are the same thing, then you must accept this as the first Techno track. Which would mean Techno wasn't even invented by an american, but by a Japanese guy who had been using the 808 since maybe as early as 1978. Now, could you accept that? Or if you even go back to early-mid 70's Kraftwerk, and call that Electro, then they would be the ones who invented Techno. The line has to be drawn somewhere. You can't just keep going back and back until you get to music that sounds nothing like even mid-80's Techno, and say that was the first Techno track.

Modern vocal trance sounds a lot like Eurodance, and a lot of informed people call Silence(Tiesto Remix) Eurodance.

I see ... its absolutely obvious to conclude then that Juan Atkins was the first one to produce a techno track since he coined the term and made the first techno track, be it Techno City or Techno Music.

Early Ryuchi's music is considered electro in my opinion.
