That deal's been squashed, I believe. Supposedly, there's more value for Benson than Omar anticipated.

Thank you lord!!!!!

The wheeling-and-dealing New York Mets crossed another need off their 2006 wish list, acquiring All-Star catcher Paul Lo Duca from the Florida Marlins in exchange for two minor league pitchers, the New York Daily News reported on its Web site.

It would be the second deal between the Mets and Marlins this offseason, with Florida sending slugging first baseman Carlos Delgado to New York last month. The Mets also signed free-agent closer Billy Wagner, giving Mets general manager Omar Minaya a player at every postition he said was a priority.

Lo Duca, 33, was an All-Star in each of the past three seasons. He will be taking the place of Mike Piazza, a sure Hall of Fame player and, like Lo Duca, a former Dodger. Lo Duca hit .283 with six homers and 57 RBI for the Marlins in 2005.

The Mets will send 19-year-old right-hander Gabriel Hernandez and another minor leaguer pitcher to be named, the Daily News reported.

Ugh ugh ugh. I really like Gaby Hernandez.

I mean... Lo Duca gets 12.5M these next two years. Why not just throw 7 mill at Ramon Hernandez for 3 years? Ramon is better and younger. I'm really begining to hate Omar. "Hey... we have a prospect... LET'S TRADE HIM!!!" If he trades Milledge, I'll really be upset. Then again, I almost cried when they traded Kazmir, so, I'm a bit of a Prospect Whore.

Maybe they throw Lo Duca to the D-Backs for Vasquez.

I don't understand your fascination with Vasquez, I think he sucks and will continue to do so. The numbers don't lie... I wouldn't want him on my fantasy team at all. His ERA would kill my team.

I'd rather have Paul Byrd like the Indians got or Kevin Millwood or someone like that.

I don't understand your fascination with being dumb.

There's also speculation that Lo Duca + someone goes to the Dodgers for Jeff Kent. Do it Omar... and I'll be oh so much happier about this deal.

Wins do mean something in pitching (yeah there is too much emphasis on wins in deciding who has had a better year or not).

Here's a tidbit that I totally agree with about A.J. Burnett signing with the Blue Jays today:

Burnett's innings have always been too low, because he throws so many pitches. Like many strikeout pitchers, he walks too many batters, leading to higher pitch counts and earlier exits. And that, of course, leads to fewer wins. Burnett ranked 15th in the National League in pitches per plate appearance. Meaningless stat for fantasy? Not really, because it shows Burnett is not likely to become a big winner as long as he's averaging barely six innings per start.

i am shocked that a.j. burnett landed on a mid-market team like the blue jays. i thought a high-market team, like the yanks, mets, red sox, or rangers would try to make an attempt at him .

i cant say anything about the blue jays, because they look like they have talent on their roster, with chacin and burnett booked as 1-2, and obviously ryan as the closer .

but will this put them over the hump above the sox and yanks ?? no.

Forgetting about Halladay?

Their rotation is lots better than the Yankees or Red Sox.

Both Halladay and Burnett (and Lilly) have had serious injury problems in their careers so we'll see. The Bj's are still lacking a quality big bat but I hear they're looking at Piazza (a waste of time) and Frank Thomas (always hurt). I bet they still wish they had Delgado.
