sad. once upon a time he was my fav dj. now i feel embarrased to admit to that.

You shouldn't feel that. I mean, I'm sure a number of us Canadians here don't feel emberrassed that a great number of us used to think Chris Sheppard was an awesome DJ.

the music culture where i live must be a bit different then.

round here respect goes to local gabber, hardcore & freeform djs that only use vinyl, rave scene, etc..

anyhow thats beginning to get irrelevant, back on topic.

I think alot of times people fail to distinguish the difference between the 2 type of DJs that are out there. I am talking about the DJ as an artist and the DJ as an entertainer. I dont think anyone here will argue that Tiesto, Oaky, Armin are great DJs as entertainers. Thats why they attract such large audiences. They are up there to entertain people. As artists, these guys have lost it. They obviously at one point were a big influence on the artistic side of EDM, but I guess since the new millinium we are seeing the emergence as DJs as entertainers and these guys are at the forefront. Nobody will argue the artistic talent of guys like Oliver Leib,James Holden, etc.....but have you ever seen any of these "artistic" DJs in front of a crowd? Its like watching someone read a term paper in front of their high school class in the underwear. They look uncomfortable. In a perfect world DJs as entertainers would be comprised of the most talented people in the scene, but it doesnt work that way. DJs as entertainers are mostly "type A" personalities, and the artistic DJs are usually the quiet ones. Respect to "Tiesto" as being a good entertainer, however I will never mistake him for an artistic mind.

^Really questionable whether Tiesto is a great entertainer. I only speak from what I've seen on videos, but Tiesto doesn't look like he's much of an entertainer. Sure, he's got a shit eating grin on most of the time, but that's not really entertaining, is it?

Armin on the other hand, esp when he gets drunk, does put on a show

Tiesto is. I've been to 3 live events of his, including TIC:Miami. He's very interactive w/ the crowd.
