Knowing Jamie as I do I believe her intent was likely to stress that Squirrelly is exactly what she would expect a stupid chick to be thus I believe the first comma should have simply been omitted.

Maybe we can share the cookie. Why type is it?

Actually I'm right. You use a comma between 2 separate adjectives that equally modify the same noun. In this case, "girl" is the noun, and "typical" and "stupid" are the modifiers.

Reverse the order of them and it still makes sense.

Sorry ladies, you're both incorrect. Ah English, the glorious language of exceptions. Hard and fast rules don't always apply. Learning the rules is only the begining of understanding how to effectively utilize our great language.

I think we have free will, but I also beleive that our reality has some sort of intelligent force behind it, making things happen for a reason.

It makes me wonder why we have all been brought here, to talk about such weird things.

LOL, whatever man. My answer is straight from the APA writing manual. And this case, YES, the hard and fast rules DO apply. You can Google it if you want.

I guarantee if a university teacher were to correct that sentence, they'd mark it the way I suggested.

Wouldn't an intelligent, interventionist, power over reality negate free will? Whould that not just be the illusion of free will then?

I dont know,

but surely we have all had those circumstances happen to us that make you think that there is someting out there. Maybe it doesnt intervene in all situations, but I like to believe that there are some wierd twists in the way things happen, that seem to be prearranged.

Aah, but what if you have free will and the universe knows which way you're going to choose, so you're still choosing, but it knows which path you'll choose?

oh, i see. so if i believe there are fairies living on the dark side of the moon, its merely a matter of opinion and cannot be described as "stupid"? if you say so. "purpose" is just a way for you to interpret an occurence. it says more about the person interpreting it than any form of cosmic control. ascribing some sort of meaning to life's chances is unsubstantiated superstition. and as such, im gonna call it stupid. i dont care if you agree or not.

I find the entire question of fate/destiny to be a little silly. You will always hear the arguments of pre-determination vs. free will and inevitably someone will question who is pulling our strings or what their mysterious master plan is. It's all hog wash. I don't believe that all of our actions are pre-determined by any outside force, however, I do believe that in any given situation there is only one course of action / reaction we can take. This is not determined by anything outside of ourselves, it is determined by our experience, motivations, thought processes and beliefs. What ever decision I make in a given situation is the only decision I could make because it is the only one I would allow myself to make. The only way we could possibly go against our inclinations is if we had foreknowlege of the results of our intended action, since we don't we are destined to do whatever it is we do.

exactly right. i am far more likely to subscribe to a theory of divinity than i am for some idea about pre-determined outcomes. especially since those that believe in fate or destiny dont actually think about what their ideas entail. thus far not one believer in this thread has articulated any kind of rational thought-process that indicates they have given the idea real consideration. they just came to believe it because it suited their life at a particular time. thats just not rational.

pkcRAISTLIN, you need to shut the fuck up.

I regret giving you compliments about your intelligence, because intelligence isn't just what you know.

Do something with your life.
