The fact taht his tracks were always ahead of everyone else. I remember listening to many of this sets during each year, 2001, 2002 and so on, and each time I would hear him spin tracks that no other dj was spinning. Go back and listen to a Ferry or PVd set from 2002 and compare it to a Tiesto set from that time. Tiesto's tracks were much better and different than eveyrone elses.

I assume the music he heard in those country started to influence his tastes. I perfer if Tiesto would have stuck with the Dutch style of music, you can hear that in his Dutch Dimension 2001 and 2002 sets, but you cannot blame him for liking new music.

you really like talking shit don't you

trance changed as a whole... what is now popularly described as trance, wasn't even around in the period you mention.

Most of the material he still plays is produced in NL, UK & USA.

Its completely trite to say he went to Asia/Sth. America and changed.

In 2001 and 2002 he played quite a fair amount of crossover house/techno/tech-house... King Unique, Sapphirecut, Megamind, Max Walder... for some examples.. just actually LISTEN next time you put on the 02-02-02 set.

He actually went in a rut in 2003-5 because he stuck to that big-room, no frills, tech-trance. The same fodder Armin is now ploughing through, to receive the popularity with the mainstream, that he needs to be number 1.

Tijs is older, wiser, and playing across the board again, just as he always used to do.

Its not a development... its just a RETURN to the REAL tiesto. But to understand that, you have to realise that up until this year, the Tiesto you were listening to, was the former shadow of himself, not the OMG.. He has always and will forever be trance. No. He was not, and no he won't be. Hard to stomach? Well tough.

p.s. Lost Treasures 2 for the win. Then you might just understand, what a non-genre specific DJ, Tiesto has been, and will continue to be, now that he has freed himself of the shackles of World No.1 spotlight.

This just tells me you need to listen to more DJs than the usual suspects.

I would definately agree with this. His set at HMH in 2005 marked a return of the "old tiesto" for me from the going through the motions, anthem basher of the previous couple of years. Only wish Armin would see that going commercial is not the only way it has to be to be popular.

If i recall correctly, he became #1 in 2002 because of the music he played in 2001 and 2002.

This type of music is why he became #1 in 2002. Not because he spun big-room, no frills, tech-trance. If He would have stuck to this style, he would have still remained #1 in my view.

Well, I have almost every set that has been released on him, and 80% of all the tracks have been trance. WOuld you like me to post all the sets I have, so you can see I know wwhat I am talking about.

Again, he won that spot when he was playing all the various sytles. The only difference is that the track slection back then was better and more original then the stuff he spins now. Listen and compares both sets:

DJ Tiësto - Live at Club Flort (Budapest, Hungary): November 10, 2002

http://www.sendspace.com/file/sb24k9

01. Iio - At The End (Scumfrog Remix)
02. Young Parisians - U Write The Rules (Solar Stone Mix)
03. The Roc Project - Never (DJ Tiësto Remix)
04. Mr Sam vs Fred Baker present As One - Forever Waiting
05. Mark Lowndes - Disillusions
06. The Green Martian - Wizardry
07. DJ Tiësto vs Junkie XL - Obsession (Frank Biazzi Remix)
08. DJ Tomcraft - Loneliness (Klub Mix)
09. Viframa - Cristalle (Katana’s Intro Mix)
10. Andain - Summer Calling (Airwave’s Progressive Mix)
11. Veit - Sky (Magik Muzik Remix)
12. Lange – Don't Think It, Feel It (Shane 54 Remix)
13. Jurgen Vries - The Opera Song (Magik Muzik Remix)
14. Midway - Inca
15. Conjure One - Tears From The Moon (DJ Tiësto's In Search of Sunrise Remix)
16. Cosmic Gate - Raging (Flutlicht Dub)
17. GTR - Mistral
18. Age of Love – The Age of Love (Mr Sam vs Fred Baker Remix)
19. Yahel - Sugar One
20. Planisphere – Totem

Tiesto - Trekstor Mix Mission [31-12-2006]

[[ LINK REMOVED ]]

password: mix_mission_06

01 First State - Evergreen
02 Carl B ft. Breaking Benjamin – Diary Of Jane (Original Mix)
03 Jose Gonzales – Crosses (Tiësto Remix)
04 Marc Houle – Bay Of Figs
05 DJ Tiësto – Lethal Industry (Richard Durand Remix)
06 Skin – Faithfulness (Tiësto Remix)
07 Cosmic Gate – Consciousness
08 Joop – The Future
09 Carlos – The Silmarillia 2007 (Leon Bolier Remix)
10 Leon Bolier Presents Precursor – The Navigator
11 Jamaster A - Bells Of Tiananmen (Airbase Remix)

Any tiesto fan can hear that he sounds better back in 2002. He still sounds great now but something happend to him and he changed his style. In my view of course.
