you do realize he's not even going to be pitching every 5th game. He doesn't have to go on road trips, so he could even pitch as little as 1/7th or 1/8th of the rest of their games. He might only manage about 20 starts. Even if you won 3/4 of those, that's an upgrade of, what, 5 games? Nah, this only matters for the playoffs.
I never heard the part about him not pitching on road games. That was his deal in Houston.
Show me where any of the reports or Clemens himself have said that he will only pitch at Yankee Stadium. If you play for the Yankees, you go where the team goes.

From what I had heard, he has the option not to. It doesn't mean he won't, as was the case in Houston, but that he's not required to. If not, though, that only moves up to about 25 starts...so now you're talking about an upgrade of maybe 7 games, assuming he doesn't miss any starts.
edit: ok, nevermind. I forgot how it worked last year. He gets to skip road trips during which he's not scheduled to pitch. So, he's got about 25 starts to go.

just to clarify things up

Sure but 7 games can be the difference between winning the division or the Wild Card. Beckett and Schilling might be pitching well now for the Red Sox but the season is long and they could get injured again just like last year.
Plus everyone respects Clemens. He's one of those guys that brings a lot to the clubhouse which is key for a team that's been hard pressed lately like the Yanks.
Anyway, I'll guarantee right now that he DOES pitch road games. He was blathering about winning a championship, etc. He knows he HURTS his team by staying in New York, plus his family live in Houston so he's basically away from them for the entire season anyway, regardless of whether he pitches in the Bronx or on the road.
Roger wants to win one more ring and I think he's going to do everything he can to help the Yankees. I wonder, if this time he actually retires in a Yankees uniform if he'll go into Cooperstown with the pinstripes on? Probably not but I think it's clear where his loyalties are now.

yeah but I think a lot of people still think he only pitches at home. The stuff he got away with in Houston won't be happening in the Bronx.
At the very least, Clemens can serve as a good shot in the arm to the Yankees' pitching staff. They've played well the last two series and I really do think they'll be in the thick of things come late summer.

Nah, he pitched on the road in Houston, too. I just forgot how that worked, but it's the same arrangement.
