ok boys...here's the situation, my parent went away on a weeks vacation.....
im a troll and an internet savage, but I think Dirk can attest i'm a pretty stand up guy when not frothing at the mouth...here are my observations on what I have seen about Dallas and its scene.(i actually met djjonas without realizing at obar and had a brief convo with his wife when he was getting his cd's...i came...good job jonnas )
1.Liquor sales oriented...ie: Dj gets no freedom. People don't dance at all, something i really wasn;t used to.That would be very hard on me if i played a party as that is my number one gage to see if the music is working or not.
2.A few very nice venues with a LOT of potential, just not the market for it...YET.
3.Making edm flourish(in Dallas at least...i didnt see the rest of the state.) will require promoters willing to take a bit of a loss and trying to educate the people a bit. The house Dj's i saw would not cut it here, but i know a few TXTA bedroom guys that play some current hot shit and honnestly get out there...if you market it right and package it properly to still draw the "be seen" people..profits and musical integrity are not impossible.)
I can understand the worship for these so called "top" Dj's, because its really all you guys get. The one thing i felt while there was being truly lucky for what i had back home. You guys can have it too...just takes work, balls, and motivations that go beyong profit. Put the trance stuff aside for a minute in October and go see Lee Burridge in October...it will change you...believe me.Lee is a monster and needs no Dj list to show it. Follow your own paths, not the ones chosen for you.If anyone ever is interested with throwing some events that think outside the box...feel free to pm me as i have a few contacts that could save you a few bucks depending on who you book. I troll to be a dick but really love this music and a flourishing scene in any city is good for everyone even me.
5.Diggerz..i have that documentary although the name escapes me. I can give a copy to Nik if anyone wants one next tim she visits. It really is interesting...and even if you only like trance...watch it. Mutek is a truly special event and i never miss it. It isn't only the shows that are great but the opportunity to participate in production workshops with huge producers that makes it special.
6.Dallas is a beautiful town but i don't get texas bbq..i mean its ok but its no taco bell. The city was nothing like the tv show...and so disapointed i didn't see chuck norris once.
7.[shameless plug]download my mixes as well s the weekly series i will be starting next week...also don't forget to buy my release on Poker Flat which will see its first limited vinyl pressing sometime in September. No Digital available for a few months..we want to keep it special and for the dj's[/shameless plug]
prognosis i'll be back, and if i can help bring something that makes me want to i will...just keep the scary grassy knoll black dude away from me and make sure grits never touch my plate.
call me
be elitist and proud..there is nothing wrong with moving against the pack and marching to the beat of your own drum if its because you love it.
i am king asshole elitist and will never change...because it feels that damn good. |

quite the opposite actually.
I'll agree with a lot of your points, but it would require changing a way of thinking, and that takes a lot more than just different approaches & more work.
but still

i thought i was giving a pretty nice and honest perspective into your scene from someone who lives in a place that has a healthier one than New York, yet with only a fraction of the population. Being defensive like that and closed minded is one of the reasons the Dallas scene won't grow...oh well such a shame because such potential. You don't have to like me, but i have a feeling you just don't know any better...(the whole dj list is a joke, the best dj's aren't even listed. Its okay, maybe someone will take it with a grain of salt like it was meant and work towards progression.
"Respect your scene and it will grow, shit on it and it will go"
flame me all you want man..like i said someone will see the positive and not display that "redneck" ignorance i first expected when going to Dallas.
one last thing...have you ever lived anywhere else or have anything to use as comparison? I've lived in Miami,New York, Montreal and Toronto...all have healthier scenes.
Do you understand its not a pissing contest but advice? Fine then...enjoy a headliner every 4 months and be happy then.
just take the thumb out of your mouth when you speak opie you really come across as an overfed baby. |
OK, just for the sake of defense of the TX scene, I will respond to this ass clown one last time.
I do respect the scene and want to see it grow. In fact, I am doing my part to help it. I'm actually working on something with a couple of other guys and a club that will bring house and progressive house talent to Dallas on, most likely, a bi-weekly basis. We will do everything we can to make it work and think that we have a format that will have some success. More to come....
Yes, I have lived and travelled to other places including all of the cities you names in addition to all of the major cities in Europe, some South America, and some in Asia. So, I know what I am talking about. I know what I want to see come of Dallas in regards to the EDM scene, and it has nothing to do with what you THINK you are offering or any immulation of Motreal, believe me.
The 'dj' in my name is only on here, since someone already had Jonas. Jeez, I can't believe I am actually defending this to the likes of you. I do play out, have played with headliners and will be playing with more in the near future. Again, more info to come...
As for my political views, I would characterize myself, actually, as more Democtratic that anything. Not that it should matter, though.
One last thing....Think before you speak about the Texas education system. If you knew how to control your A.D.D. and read post thoroughly you would have read the part where I sarcastically asked "Are you really that arrogant and ignorant enough at the same time to think we don't know any DJ's from other that the top 50 in DJ mag?"?
The point is you have given pointed criticism when not asked for it and have posted it on this board like someone here gives a shit.
Now, do you have anything else you would like to say to "overfed Opie" on the internet? Remember, I met you. I'm not sure I would be throwing out insults the way you do at ANYONE if I was a manorxic eighties hair style wearing stud like yourself. Does Canada not have mirrors or do you just lash out like this because God has been unfair to you?
I do know better, as you like to say. I just think worthy criticism comes from someone that is being more objective and not only comparing it to the Parisian wanna-be city that he come from, while shit needs to stay in the toilet where it belongs.
