It concerns me that someone who wants to be a nurse has an empathy score of 4. I mean, sure it makes sense to have a lower empathy score because you can't get too caught up in the horrible situations you have to deal with, but does that also suggest that you don't care for them, or their well being?
Hmmmm?
LOL, are you fucking kidding Theresa?
Nursing is an art, and there's a lot more to it than just being empathetic. Not to mention that there's many different ways to be empathetic in the nursing world.
It's clear that you don't understand the full scope of the profession, so I find your post a little ignorant.

For the people who are acting like ego maniacs when claiming that you dont need a test to tell you who you are - well, DUH, we all know who we are already, this is merely for fun, and it actually gives out pretty good results. Take a chill pill for the time being!

Wow. Chillax.
I was only making an observation. I pretty much don't know a damn thing about nursing, other than that a nurse stuck a finger up my butt once.
LOL!
I was just wondering how you being a nurse (or working toward it) - something I would assume requires a certain level of empathy given that the job entails working with people in pain/dying/have a relative dying etc. etc. wouldn't reflect on your score.
Just curious.

Yeah well it's kind of hard to not be irritated by that post, because you know nothing of what it takes to be a nurse. Why make a provocative comment on a subject you don't know about?
Anyway, that's the whole point of learning the art of nursing. Understanding people's needs on a wholistic level, etc. What do you think they teach us in school? It's not the same kind of "empathy" calculated in this test at all, as someone already pointed out.
The "art" of nursing that I speak of is learning to find the balance between empathizing with patients and providing them CARE, while maintaining a professional, knowledgeable role. It requires strength as much as it does empathy, if not more.
At the end of the day, our job is to advocate for the needs of the sick/aged/dying...and getting too personally/emotionally involved hinders that ability.
I think you need to expand your notions of what it means to be empathetic.

if we could program robots to be dexterous enough theyd be fine nurses too. Empathy is feeling what someone else does, and that is not a pre-requisite for any profession other than being the pyschologist on the Enterprise amirite

Yeah, and someone who's naturally more empathetic does NOT automatically make a better nurse, because as I said, there's a lot more to it than just being empathetic.
God why am I even explaining myself? Bloody lol.
