Make sure nothing's painted with lead paint or anything toxic. BOIL whatever you put in for 10 minutes to kill any bacteria, and let it cool.

Good idea. That stuff is highly toxic, especially to fish. Almost every time I see a dead fish, it's after prolonged exposure to it.
