Alright, my 2 cents.

Recording anyone's set when they specifically asked you not to is bad.

DT specifically - I've been lucky enough to see him numerous times at great venues. I'm a huge fan. And yes, he spouts off and acts like a diva at times.

BUT - the man is all about providing an experience when he djs, he isn't like 99.9% of the djs out there who come in and spin for a few hours to the masses without making any musical impression. He's in a position where he's got the talent (and commands a hefty $$ fee) to ensure he can do extended sets and create a proper musical experience. It's a very rare thing these days, I can only think of 1 other dj (the talented Danny Howells) who has enough sway in the industry to exclusively do extended sets. And anyone who really loves the music and has experienced DT just going full-tilt to a packed room will know what I mean by saying that it's pure magic. So if DT thinks that cellphones, cameras, glowsticks etc. interfere with that experience then he'll ask the venue to exclude them. A few years back Stereo, Spirit (NYC) and Space (Miami) would coat-check all of those items for you on a DT night. Didn't Boa do the same for the Canada Day party? Sure it pissed off people but hey, those were the rules and they were announced beforehand on the flyers, tickets and at the entrance to the venues etc. And it never prevented the place from being rammed packed.

Of course, times have changed and many venues won't agree to this (and in the case of cellphones I have to say I'm glad, I would have never met my friends at LOL otherwise). For me, it was a pleasant shock to see DT not only smiling but posing for so many pics at LOL. So maybe he is getting used to some aspects of regular club nights.

p.s. glowsticks though are a whole different story. I've never understood what makes someone think that the dj will appreciate getting a light show while he's playing. One particularly clueless dude decided to do just that to DT towards the end of the night - a few of us at the front got rather vocal about it and the dude quickly retreated with a "huh? what am I doing wrong?" expression of his face.

In all fairness, don't try to say you went to a Labour of Love party without knowing *exactly* what the atmosphere was going to be like. That was the one Toronto event with Danny T on the bill that I still decided to pass on.

The original Danny T event at Boa is still #1 on my top ten, and the one at the Docks a year or so later was also a great event. I'll pay the premium to see him if the venue is chosen properly - he can of course play a lot of different types of venues, but some clearly aren't right for his style.

P.S. The Cloro set is definitely worth the download.

at labour of love, i had plenty of room to see, hear and enjoy. at the end i was front and centre with true fans around. actually was surprised with the crowd being receptive until he lost everyone after two hours and was not good at all.

i know here there is a lot of trainwreks in the set and that is why he is upset about it. lol.
